I am sorry to see this service end on July 1st. It has been suggested that I switch from RSS to twitter feeds. Other ideas?

Ironically, the top posts in my Google Reader today are about Google Reader alternatives.  I'm giving http://feedly.com a whirl at the moment.  Looks like a cross between Reader and Flipboard.  So far, so good.

Feedly seems to be the most popular recommendation on OO.  I moved my stuff over to it with their automated Reader import service and it went very smoothly.  I actually like the interface over there better than Reader.  Seems a bit more modern, slicker.

I've heard a lot about Feedly, too. What iOS apps support it? Does it hide articles you've already read?

I'm using Feedly too, primarily because it has both PC and iOS versions. I really liked Mr. Reader on the iPad and I don't know what will happen to it now.

I have two gripes with Feedly though: (1) when all of the feeds have been read, it continues to show the read feeds even though I have the "only unread" filter turned on, and (2) I wish there was a way to increase the size of the text on the screen.

I'm kind of annoyed that they think that social media will replace RSS. Um, what if I want to read everything that comes from a specific site? How is that supposed to happen?

Um, can't you just go to that actual site?  Tongue

I switched over to Feedly today with 11 days to spare. Google Reader was a useful tool for years. I hope Feedly holds up.

It's actually pretty good, and has an android app smile

I keep not moving to something else in hopes this is all a nightmare I will wake up from.  I guess it is time to check something else out, though.  July 1st is nigh.

Tried Feedly and definitely like it.  I clicked to use my Reader account...is that all I need to do?  I am worried that once Reader goes down that it is somehow accessing that account on the fly and it will go away.  Did it basically import my feed so I am all good now?

That's my understanding. Feedly knows they are getting a bunch of new business from Google Reader so they made it as easy as possible to collect all of your existing RSS feeds.

I switched to Feedly too. I agree with a prior comment about disappointment that Feedly will show previously read feeds when you have read all of the new feeds. I'm also having a problem with the iOS version in that when I get to the end of the category and mark everything read, it stays in the category instead of automatically moving to the next category with unread feeds.
