All,

For the 4th year in a row, I will be walking in the Great Strides event here in Sacramento on May 18th, raising money and awareness for the CF Foundation. As a participant, I have committed to raise $2,000, with our team goal of $5,000. Last year this time we were at $1,775 and this year we are already over $3,000. With your help we believe we can reach our goal!

Team Ethan is again participating in the 2013 Great Strides Event. What is Great Strides? It's one of the biggest fundraisers the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation runs to raise money for new treatments and research towards a cure of this awful fatal disease. Three years ago last month, we found out that our son who was about 3 weeks old at the time, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Talk about a shock to the system! Since then this will be our 4th year participating in this event that directly helps over 70,000 people who have CF worldwide.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

Because of these walks and similar fundraisers there has been significant breakthroughs for new treatments, research, and support to the CF community. This year there has been some great news on new drugs that will directly help my son and many others and is getting closer for release!

Over the years many generous forum members have helped someone they never met. It amazes me every year the support my family receives. We have a great community that gives back, and I'm always happy to belong to this forum. We all may have our differences, but helping others always prevailed, and that's what makes this forum awesome!

Today, I am asking you to help me reach my goal by making a contribution at my page http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/KenDean. Please feel free to share this post or link to your friends and family! The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a highly regarded nonprofit donor-supported organization that relies on donations from events like this and the way they manage their foundation has been used by other organizations due to how efficient they are.

I appreciate your support and generosity, and I will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you,
Ken, Erin, Ethan & Lila

Thanks to those who have already donated.  We have exceeded our goal earlier this week, and we are now pushing for $6,000.  Still time to donate if you like.  One of Ethan's friends who has CF was just admitted to the hospital and now will miss their walk, and his little league tournament.  It's a another reminder how unfair this disease is.

If you would like to donate you can learn how here

Thanks again.  This will be my last plug, don't want to be pushy smile

So, I don't have everyone's emails for those who have donated, and I can't place your real names to your forum name.  So it's best to post my thank you on this thread.  Please pretend you are reading a personal email thanking you for your generosity smile

Last month Team Ethan gathered at the State Capitol to raise awareness, and fundraise for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.  This year we have raised $6,785 thanks to your generosity!  Our goal was $5,000 and we surpassed that a few weeks before the walk.  You donation makes it so that new treatments/drugs are created/funded as well as an investment for research towards a cure.  The last few years they have made GREAT STRIDES on fighting CF, and the future is bright for those who have Cystic Fibrosis.

Thank you for your continued support for Ethan and 70,000+ people worldwide!

Here is a video of our walk that took place on May 18th, 2013 at Sacramento State Capitol building.

Thanks again for your donation,
