everyone's favorite growling anti-hero is coming back for a third time.  according to the article it's going to be closer to Pitch Black than Chronicles, so I wonder if they're tossing out the ending of Chronicles altogether or going for a prequel.

On the throne, after having killed the Supreme Overlord with a bit of a belly who could move like a shadow... Jack's dead though, and the rest of the Necromongers knelt, and Vaakus said "You keep what you kill", so, Riddick is now supreme warlord and will have to get a bit of a fat belly

he was on Jonathan Ross late night Friday thing(UKs version of Letterman or Jay Leno,only its every friday and not every night)..and they were discussing World of Warcraft ,as he likes to play that as well and Vin Diesel was impressed that JRs wife was 'a very high level'(JR told him she had green stuff coming off her character and VD eyes widened and was suddenly very interested in the topic,LOL)

here's the most current plot synopsis.

Vin Diesel was an avid DnD player for years, may even still be. It's been a long while but If memory servers me correctly Vin had a large part in creating the Riddick character as well as the Necromonger race and the Underverse. I can definitely see the whole story within the context of a PnP rpg setting. I also thought Vin never intended Pitch Black to be the first movie but when he pitched his idea the powers that be weren't that interested in the Furyan/Necromonger thing but they liked the "horror" aspects of Pitch Black so that was what wound up being produced first.
As to that plot synopsis, I always got the impression Riddick was pretty much the last surviving Furyan, well aside from Shirah but I never finished Butcher Bay so not sure how she plays into the story, anyway so if Riddick is the last how is he betrayed and I thought the Lord Marshal pretty much leveled Furya in his original attack??? Seems like another one of those hollywood "Jedi mind tricks" like having to pretend there was no continuity in the Highlander universe.

Chronicles would have been much better if they'd dropped the whole "I'm really from Furya.  I'm like a Klingon without the ridges!" crap and just kept him as he was meant to be:  an anti-hero who made himself more than a man through sheer tenacity and mean spiritedness.  it just felt tacked on and forced. 

The setting for Chronicles was great, though.  Much more interesting than the Furya crap.

yeah, i don't get why he had to be the last survivor of a super-race.  that makes his survival from pitch black a bit weaker.  it would be like finding out that the guy in glasses who just saved a bunch of kids was superman.  of course he can do it. 

i loved the setting as well, but the whole universe expansion felt like a different movie was made and then they decided to drop riddick into it. 

i'd almost enjoy an adaptation of EfBB made into a movie.  or an expansion of the dark athena storyline.

either way, i'll watch this when it comes out.

I think it would be great to do exactly that.  May be the only way to make a decent riddick sequel.

yeah, but they still had him in that one supermax for a bit (which was intentional).  You'd think the guys in charge of the prisons would have learned their lesson after Butcher Bay and lock him up in a very small cell, hang him upside down and feed him through a tube.

Yup, I don't see how he's going to end up in a prison this time. People on thrones don't usually go to prison, just to the chopping block.

To me what little's known about the plot kind of reminds me of the Star Wars Old Republic legend about Onderon and the Dxun moon colony. In it convicts and other unwanted members of society are cast out into a hostile environment populated with lethal, alien beasts. They turn the tables by taming the beasts and waging an endless war against their previous captors. Ironically, they even later gain the services of 3 powerful Jedi for their cause.  Hey if Lucas is too lame to run with a film based on one of his Old Republic plots, why not have someone else rip it off.

After seeing Chronicles about 297 times on cable TV, I actually warmed up to the movie. I even bought it cheap on DVD cause I never seemed to see the whole thing on cable.  I thought Kyra's storyline was more interesting than his, and a shame about her fate in the film.

Vinny to me is like Sylvester Stallone. Slather him up and he looks like a matinee idol, but the moment he opens his mouth... I recommend they gave Vin as little dialogue as possible in the new film. Maybe even make it a silent movie.

Am I the only one that really didn't like Chronicles? Maybe I need to rewatch it some day, but when it came out I thought it was pretty terrible. I really enjoyed Pitch Black though. And, from what little I know of the game storylines, I think I'd probably like them too (they're in my backlog). Chronicles, however, was just weird to me. Cheesy and campy. I also am not a fan of movies where fantasy and sci-fi stuff both exist like they did in this one. At least, that's what I remember thinking at the time. Truth is I don't remember much of the movie.
