Whenever my wife goes away on business, I'll usually take the opportunity to watch a bunch of movies she's not interested in, like violent action movies and horror movies. But I don't like those horror movies that make you want to claw out your eyeballs and go into psychotherapy like the ones PR_GMR watches slywink. I like scary sci fi movies and fun slasher movies. A while ago I saw the trailer for "You're Next" and made a mental note to track it down at some point. Tonight seemed a good a night as any.

If you don't mind a low budget horror film with a sense of humor I'd definitely recommend this one. It's got some gore but nothing terrible. The story is basically about a family reunion that is interrupted by masked killers. Other than that I'd recommend going in blind.

After watching it I found out that it falls into the category of "mumblegore" because a lot of people in it are part of the mumblecore scene, yet it's a horror movie.

Oh by the way I also watched "Dredd" tonight and it was surprisingly good.

I do that, too. That's when I catch up on superhero movies (more for pop cultural literacy than because I actually want to see them) and sometimes horror (last time she went away I watched all the formative zombie movies to learn about the genre's origins and evolution).

This particular one won't make my list, though. I don't like gore/murder/slasher type horror.

Dredd was surprisingly good!  I rather enjoyed it myself.
