Former Astro and MVP Ken Caminiti dead

ESPN breaking, heart attack, 41 years old.

Sad to see the ravages of steroid abuse drawn in such heavy relief.

He also had drug problems and, correct? It's a shame to see it happen, but I imagine his body was pretty messed up from years of abuse.

It's sad to look through the baseball cards I have from when I was a kid and think of how many of the players from the 80s and 90s are already dead. Bo Diaz, Ivan Calderon, Tim Crews and now Caminiti and John Cerutti.

Yeah, ESPN and a Houston paper report that Caminiti was jailed for four positive cocaine drug tests, and last week tested positive again, violating his parole on earlier drug charges.

I have a feeling his drinking and coke problems probably conspired equally with the steroid abuse to bring him down.

Maybe he's found some peace now, at least.

He was one of the stalwarts of my team in a tabletop baseball league I was in for many years, the Leesburg Generals of the Internet Baseball League (IBL). It's a sad day to see him shuffle off this mortal coil.
