nearly as annoying as Sam Raimi also producing the Evil Dead Remake..NOT NEEDED!! I just bought Poltergeist on Blu-Ray last month or so but not watched it yet,and its one of those films(at least for me) that you always forget how much input Spielberg had I think Poltergeist 2 was scarier, because of that Preacher "Carrie-Anne"...creepy as hell, but then again the first one had the clown didn't it?...hmm I've never seen Poltergeist III for some reason,I remember thinking if the first one was the TV and the second one was the Telephone what on earth could be for number 3,the Microwave?

I remember being totally freaked out by the clown in that godforsaken bedroom. I'd go back and watch it again, but as an adult I'd probably think 'meh'. Best to let childhood terrors rest untarnished.

I saw Poltergeist at 8 years old, and it was (and still is, actually) the source of most of my nightmares. I will not be seeing any sort of remake.

Poltergeist taught me the ability to estimate lightening distance by counting between the flash and the thunder. It also taught me to never build a house on an Indian burial ground. Both very important lessons.

I think of Poltergeist every time there's a thunderstorm. Now that my daughter has heard the same thing, I also wonder if it's too early to scare the shit out of her with the movie.

Director FoundYou might not want a Poltergeist remake. But getting the director of Monster House to do it is a good move...
One of the most sorely underappreciated animated movies of recent times is the terrific Monster House. It never did particularly great business, but it's bursting with ideas, and very much deserves not to be forgotten about. The less you know about it, the better, but just know that Community creator Dan Harmon worked on the screenplay.
Furthermore, the film was directed by Gil Kenan, who's since gone on to do City Of Ember. And he's just gone and landed himself a new job.
Kenan is the surprise, but very welcome choice, to direct the planned remake of Poltergeist, that's been bubbling away for some time in development. There's no real reason in the world why we want a remake of Poltergeist, to be fair, but if it's deemed necessary to have one, than at least Kenan is a different choice.
Sam Raimi is amongst the producers of the new movie, and presumably MGM is going to look to get it into production later this year. More news on Poltergeist as we get it. Do check out Monster House if you haven't already, though. Looked on IMDb to check out the other films he has directed, and it is just Monster House(2006) and City of Ember(2008) at the moment,i have not seen either of them,so can't really comment http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1481493/?ref_=tt_ov_dr

Monster House was awesome, so maybe?
I dunno, Poltergeist is pitch perfect. Plus, you need brass ones to try and remake Spielberg.
edit: Why did I think Spielberg did it? Produced it maybe? Turns out it was Tobe Hooper.

Spielberg wrote it and there are stories of him coming in and directing some of the big scenes, but others deny it.

was this the one where Spielberg took the credit for the writing, but it was actually him and a few others or is that perhaps Close Encounters?
Anyway,great flick
And Tegs,i hope you are very wrong about the found footage warning....that has well and truly outstayed its welcome(like as soon as Blair Witch 1 was released)

As far as I know, he claimed to have only produced it (with Tobe Hooper directing), but word was that he all but directed it himself.

The preacher in number 2 still scares the crap out of me. When he starts singing, ooh imagine that playing late at night outside your bedroom window.

The fella that played him was dying of stomach cancer at the time. He was involved in some pretty out there living theatre, I believe there is video footage of him performing on youtube.
