Raw Oysters/Clams, anyone else a fan?

As I'm heading home, I'm going to stop and pick up a dozen Malpeque oysters to enjoy with some Guinness tonight, got me wondering if there are any other Oysterheads here?

Chicago (specifically Wells Street) has a Guinness Oyster fest each year that rocks.  There's nothing better on a friday after work than sitting down to a plate of oysters and a beer at a neighborhood bar.

Home is great.. I have yet to try raw clams.. anyone had any?  I can get raw littlenecks for pretty cheap.

Depends on how much beer I have.  I've I'm a bit loaded, I love them if they are done right.  The Brooklyn in Seattle does a good job with them.  My problem is I cant stand the smell of oysters, so if I'm sober I won't ever get them close to my face.

I used to eat them all the time growing up in Louisiana.  I then got really paranoid about bacteria.  No more oysters (or the raw ground meat I used to eat with salt and pepper on it).

Felix's Oyster Bar in New Orleans.  God, I love that place.  I've worked with Entergy Power in New Orleans quite a bit over the last 8 years or so and I always make time to head over there after work and belly up to the oyster bar.  i love watching those guys shuck 'em while i sat there with my big ol' beer.

My dad would always slice his hand open when we got our sacks of oysters.  Good times.

I don't care for the Oysters, but I love (cooked) mussells and clams. Once got sick on clams and had to fly home from Hawaii draped over three seats because I was sick as a dog...thank god the plane was only half full.

I'm too scared of dying from raw oysters. Battered and fried though..YUM!

I do recall once as a kid my dad getting me to try a raw oyster. I just could not swallow it. Like a giant cold booger.

And not just any old ground beef is good for this dish either. First time I saw people eating copious amounts of this was in Holland. Very safe and tasty if made from the correct ingredients and done right.

I like Raw Oysters occasionally, but I absolutely don't like raw clams.

This summer we vacationed in New England and I went clamming with a friend in Buzzard's Bay. 

We then prepared the clams like 6 or 7 different ways, including eating them raw.

If any of you have ever shucked clams, I doubt you would eat them raw.  So disgusting. 

To make matters worse, my friend took us to this clam shack where all the clams are fried, but they are "full bellied".  We went there the day before we went clamming, so I had no idea what full bellied actually meant.  I ate a few and wasn't really crazy about them.  The next day I had the pleasure of cutting the bellies out of the clams we caught and visions of eating fried clam shit the day before came to mind.  Argh 


Sushi on the other hand is awesome.

Could never do em raw. However, Boiled, Broiled, Fried or my favorite was grilled. However, all bottom feeders, and most shellfish in general is terrible for my system. Totally pisses everything off. So no goodness for me. I do understand the love though...

That's a bummer.  I love me some shrimp and crab!  I didn't even know it was an allergy for some people until recently.

god, I miss decent clam bakes.  can't think of the last time they even had one around here.  the one time I was up around Boston (decades ago) we took my uncles boat out during low tide and went clamming, then came back, steamed them and had one hell of a dinner.  the one local seafood restaurant down here that had clam pots stopped serving them too, guess that's the price of being in mid-ohio.
