While not even close to this girl's situation, my wife recently got a baha cochlear hearing device/implant. Her case was nowhere near as extreme though. She lost her hearing in her ear from an infection when she was 13. So for the past 27 years she had 2-3% hearing in that ear (basically deaf). Her other ear was fine. The day she went in for compatibility testing, where they just put the device on your head (way less powerful than it is when you have it attached to a titanium spike in your skull bone), it nearly brought her to tears. I have no doubt that she is really feeling that emotion, based on my experience. |
