---- From Yahoo-----
Sam Raimi is resurrecting the Dead.
The Spider-Man helmer, who shot to fame scaring the bejesus out of moviegoers as the writer, director and producer of the 1981 cult horror classic The Evil Dead, has unveiled plans for a remake, Daily Variety reports.
Raimi will develop the new Dead installment through his Ghost House Pictures with an assist from the production company Senator International and the film's original producing partners, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell.
Campbell also played Ash, the beleaguered, badass hero chased by dark zombie forces in The Evil Dead and its sequels: 1987's equally gory Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and 1992's Army of Darkness, which jettisoned the series' more stomach-churning chills in favor of slapstick.
The Evil Dead follows five friends who wind up at a cabin in the woods, where they find an archaeologist's taped translation of an ancient text known as the Necronomicon. When spoken aloud, the book unleashes an unspeakable evil from the forest that terrorizes the teens and turns them into flesh-eating demons. It's up to Ash to keep the dead dead.
The over-the-top violence, masterful camera work, and buckets of blood earned the low-budget feature a massive underground following and launched Raimi's career.
Because he's busy prepping Spider-Man 3, Raimi doesn't have plans to direct the new version.
"The Evil Dead is such a special film to Sam, Rob, Bruce and horror fans that we are going to take great care in renewing this franchise," Joe Drake, president of Senator International, told Variety. "By keeping its original formula intact and given audiences' appetite for horror, we expect that we'll have a real hit on our hands."
As part of the deal, Senator will put up the financing in exchange for worldwide rights to the picture and its executive producer, Nathan Kahane, will supervise production for the company. No word on whether Campbell will have a role in the update. -----------------------
Oh it's got to have Bruce back in the lead role again. It just wouldn't be an evil dead movie without Ash.

Damn. I'm not sure this is a good idea. I saw Evil Dead in the theater in 1981, and it instantly became one of my favorite horror films.
In my view, part of what gives ED it's magic, is the entire "b-movie, cheap' feel. The grainy film, low budget sound, the claymation effects. It just felt like you were out in the woods with them. (Blair Witch has this same feel)
I'll definitely watch the new one, but if they do a bunch of CGI bullshit, I won't be happy.

Hmmm...I have a feeling if Raimi isn't directing it, it just won't be the same which is good in it's own way. The original is classic, so I hope whoever directs the remake doesn't try to ape Raimi's style.

and the new Ash is: Jane Levy. Fede Alvarez is directing and Raimi is producing/co-writing.

Red Band TrailerA little too serious, and I'm still not seeing the point of a remake. There are some big gross-outs already, including one real cringe-inducer at the end that, frankly, should have been saved for the film.

It seems to have lost the campiness which made the first one fun. Very, very gross though.

Well the first one was not nearly as campy as the 2nd. At least from the trailer, however, it does appear to be playing it totally straight.

I see the Tree Rape scene is there
It looks very over the top gory, not sure that will save it from Remake Hell™ that so many other films are in,especially horror remakes
I don't think it's a cinema trip movie, but more a wait for cable showing movie

Love the gore! I also feel like it's closer in tone to the first movie. I think it's going to be hard for any 'cabin in the woods' type movie to be as good as Cabin in the Woods.

The first one was never supposed to be campy. It was a serious horror movie, but turned campy because they weren't all that good at what they were doing. Evil Dead was a lucky accident. This remake is interesting in that they're trying to do what the original failed at: Create a good horror movie.

Oh sure, it was effective enough when it was new and surprising, but time has not been kind to it. People today remember Evil Dead for its campiness, regardless of its sequels. Bruce Campbell admits as much in a recent interview, but he's also overly critical of his own acting.

MrPointyHead(ex-Inside Xbox) just saw a preview of this and said it was good,he also said this... Dan Maher @MrPointyHead Turns out there's a post-credits scene in Evil Dead - unfortunately daft security measures meant we'd already left to retrieve our phones. so hopefully when its released in a few weeks,we will remember to stay behind for it

I watched Evil Dead 1 this weekend because it was on Netflix. It had been so long since I had watched it (15+ years) that I really couldn't remember a lot about it other than a few memorable scenes. It really does start off as a pretty bad low budget horror movie - Bruce Campbell isn't bad, but the other male actor is particularly awful. Then in the last 3rd or so it does start to get pretty Raimi-esque. Not like ED2/AoD, but a lot of the time is spent beating the crap out of Bruce Campbell and spewing blood and goop everywhere.
Of course, they never explain why Ash never gets possessed even though he is cut up as bad or worse as the others. At least in the second one his hand gets taken over.
I'm guessing the tongue splitting scene is a nod to the scene where the zombie girl licks the knife in the original.
