anyways, I heard in the Tim Burton version he planned a love scene between the lead female ape and the astronaut but it got cut out.  So in addition to gay apes there must be some into bestiality.

The remake of PotA has my nomination for "dumbest fucking nonsense ending... evar".

Why?  I'm not saying I thought Burton's PotA was good, but the ending was closer to the book that the whole franchise was based upon.

You mean the very end, after he leaves to go back to his own time?

Essentially.  Wikipedia has a pretty good article about the book (the author of PotA also wrote the "Bridge over the River Kwai" oddly enough) that summarizes it if you never read the original novel.

Hmm... ok.  But why was there a statue of the main enemy he fought?  That's the part, for me, which prevented the ending from making any kind of sense.

I just think the ending should have been done a bit better.

I assume it's because he went into the future instead of the past.

Yeah, but why was the statue of the guy he defeated?  And why was he in an exact mirror of Washington DC?

It didn't make sense whether he went into the past, or the future, or an alternate past.
