The character design seems reminiscent of How to Train Your Dragon. I have no doubt I'll see it, but I'm not as over the moon about it as when I saw the setting.

Yeah, I could just have easily seen the Dreamworks name at the beginning of that trailer and believed it. This looks more Disney than Pixar to me, which isn't usually a good thing these days. Also, a YouTube trailer link for those who prefer it to Quicktime like me.

Doesn't sound as bad as toys huddled together in grim determination facing their own deaths or a bad guy who actively tries to kill a child...so it's a step in the right direction I guess.

Also nice that there's (what I think are) proper accents for that culture.
How the main character speaks in the few lines they have in the trailer is awesome.

Totally hyped for this movie. I get a bit of a laugh out of the comments on Youtube with people trying to figure out what some of the dialogue is. I don't find the accents too thick, but I do have Scottish heritage, so maybe I'm biased.

I'm curious if there's anything but the accents that makes you think that? Personally I can't see a single thing this movie has in common with Braveheart beyond the nationality of the hero.

Well the time period certainly seems similar. It's certainly not a remake of trainspotting I can tell you that! That's pretty much the extent of my Scottish movie exposure.

Did no one see this over the weekend?
Well I did and I loved it. It was beautiful, the story was good and the acting great. It was right up there in the top 5 Pixar films for me.
I am also very happy the previews didn't really give away the story. I had no idea what was going to happen and that made it more fun.

My son has a birthday party where they're going to it. I have the option of attending, but I think they're planning on seeing it at a crappy theater.

I saw it, I would rank it better than Nemo and Cars. Not as good as Incredibles, Up and WallE.

I took my young kids to see it this weekend. I loved it. They did a nice job with the celtic theme, especially seeing the celtic influence in the details of the woodwork, clothes, weapons and decorations. The animation for her fiery red (wild) hair was amazing. Her hair is a major part of her character, reflecting how feral and wild she is. The animators and artists did a great job. The music was good too.
It's a bit on the scary side for younger kids, hence the pg rating. Just a few scenes were scary for them.

Also took our 4.5 year old... some of the scary stuff was maybe a little too scary... and I don't think I've ever heard this kid say a movie was scary before.

Finally saw it today and really liked it. I'd heard the story takes an unexpected turn, and I was still surprised. Overall, I found it very charming. Also, I went expecting to love the main character (which I did), but the standout for me was the mother. I was really taken with her. Some of that was Emma Thompson's voice work, but a lot of it was in the animation. Just lovely.
I really wanted to mention the short at the start of the film, though. La Luna. What a spectacular piece. It was a deeply imaginative yet simple story, fantastically animated, and rich with clever, deeper meaning. Honestly, I was surprised I hadn't heard more about it before hand. I was really impressed.

I really enjoyed the short too, for all of the reasons you mentioned. I was actually disapointed when it ended. I wanted it to keep going.

Watched this last night thanks to iTunes unlocking rentals at midnight EST (so 9 for me!) and both my wife and I really enjoyed it. It's almost a given that I'm going to enjoy Pixar story and characters, but man I am continually blown away by the technical production. It's ridiculous the stuff they can do with these films now!
