number 1 and 2 were fantastic, number 3 was a bit strange and no where near as good(it was better however when watched on DVD)..as much as i loved the films as a whole,i think they should stop and not make number 4

Eh, I liked the 1st and wasn't particularly thrilled with either of the other two. My wife likes them though.

First film was definitely my favorite but I thought the sequels weren't as good but still okay.

I read somewhere that they felt like they kept having to make each movie bigger than the last. But that now that the trilogy is done, the next pirates film will be able to be smaller and focus on Captain Jack Sparrow.

Yuck.  The last were just silly, they were bigger, dumber and not nearly as fun.

Interesting subtitle- "On Stranger Tides" seemed a pretty big inspiration for the original movie, maybe they went whole-hog and just optioned the novel this time out.

Agreed.  We loved the first one.  We watched the second once on DVD and nearly fell asleep.  The third I watched without my wife as she had no interest, and did a lot of this  Roll Eyes throughout the entire movie.

But Iíll still watch it.  I found the originals entertaining enough if fairly forgettable.

Well, if they follow the book it'll have zombie pirates....

Again, if they follow the book the answer is...

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yes- the search for the Fountain of Youth is a central plot point.

Yep, that's why I asked the question.  The quest for immortality seemed to be the big theme that stretched across the trilogy; I would be disappointed if there was no follow-up to that for the 4th movie.

c'mon, they had Keith Richards, who may or may not have been in make-up, as Jack's dad.  that alone made it worth the price of admission!!

The Curse of the Black Pearl had something special about it.  The dialogue was entertaining, Jack Sparrow was a new and refreshing character, the action and special effects were top-notch, and the story made general sense.  Dead Man's Chest got a little wonky story-wise, and I still cringe whenever I think about the sword fight on the giant wheel, but Stellan Skarsgard was great as Bootstrap Bill, Davey Jones was an interesting take on the mythos, and overall it had a bit of a "more of the same" feel which isn't entirely a bad thing as I loved the first film.

The third in the series (I don't even remember what it was called) was largely forgettable and just poorly put together all around, especially the storyline.  I've watched Black Pearl countless times, Dead Man's Chest twice, and the third film only once.  That to me truly demonstrates which film(s) shined and which turned out to be major disappointments.  I'll watch this next installment, but it better return to what made Black Pearl such a pleasant surprise and not continue with the trend the third film started.

interesting - I loved all three movies...I didnt expect any great cinematography, just to be entertained, and by gods I was! Even by the 3 movie, which has some of the coolest moments I've ever seen in moviehistory (Before you descend on me, please rmember this is all subjective) - the fight between Jack and Davy Jones, while the ships are firing at each other, and being sucked into a malstrom...good stuff! And as always, Johnny Depp is awesome in his acting skills...

i agree with the Keith Richards comment,he was always gonna fit right in*,but whereas the first and second one were fun all over, the third lost a lot..i am not sure if its the crazy ass scene when Jack is in Davy Jones' locker with the Stone/Crab thing or the many Jacks or the fact that it was somber in atmosphere with the deaths of some of the main players...or maybe that Chow Yun Fat was underused

i did like Pirates 3 better on DVD than at the pictures, but i stand by my comments still icon_biggrin

*are the rumours still going about that Russell Brand is gonna be playing Jack's brother?

Canons are all he needs for explosions in this universe. The Military? Yeah, get the British navy from the first movie involved somehow. Maybe the British military should hire him to lead a crusade against Captain Kidd who was one of the most successful pirates of the time.

I for one would welcome all the magnificent Baysplosions that a PotC 4 directed by Michael Bay would see.  I think he could even work one right into a sword fight.

YES!

Although I'm not too sure he can act - I would love to see a part of the story where Keith and Jack Sparrow kinda go out on the seas together, just them, more or less.

I'm actually picturing the end of the Robin Williams "Popeye" movie.

THAT would be cool.
