Definitely some unsettling age verification there...

But goddamn that movie looks funny!

Anyone have an alternate location?  They can blow me if they think I'm giving them my name and zip code just to see a trailer.

I am a huge fan of Seth Rogan et al and while I think they do need to branch from the weed humor, this looks hilarious. I seriously hope these guys have a long career ahead of them.

well, they definitely seem to be doing the radio marketing blitz here in Columbus, and thank god this movie is finally coming out-  if I hear a commercial for it one more time on the radio ('floodlight!') I'm going to have to go and buy a bus ticket.

btw, is anyone else liking that song in the trailers?  i didn't like it that much, but it's growing on me.

linky for the stinky

apparently, inspiration goes pretty deep these days.  riff taken from the clash.  did not recognize the song.  oh well, it's a cool riff anyways, and the m.i.a. song is much better for it.

Am I the only one who thinks this movie is getting way too much hype for what will ultimately be a marginally funny movie at best?  I almost think they know it's gonna be bad, and thus are trying to boost the first weekend revenues as much as possible.

I'm feeling the same way.  I just want it out so I never have to hear the commercial again!  I haven't started liking Seth Rogen yet either- Knocked Up was pretty meh in my book and I don't know what they are smoking making him play Brit Reid in the Green Horrnet  saywhat

I actually loved both Knocked Up and Superbad, but I'm just getting a bad vibe from this one.  Of course, I felt the stoner humor pieces  in Knocked Up weren't quite up to the quality of the rest of that film.

after watching harold and kumar escape gitmo, i think i'm beginning to move away from stoner humor movies.

this one looks like it could go either way and i have liked rogen's past movies, so i have hopes that this will be ok.  probably a rental for us though as we have a backlog of movies to see in the theater first.

after watching harold and kumar escape gitmo, i think i'm beginning to move away from stoner humor movies.

That's because Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanimo Bay was a bad movie. It lacked the whimsical fun and smarts of the first movie -- two stoners going to white castle = road trip movie; two stoners running from guantanimo bay = insult to intelligence. They were running from the dumbest villain ever to grace the big screen (even worse than will farrell's character in J&SBSB). There were too many scenes that were groan inducingly bad that by the end of it I was bored. It ultimately failed because they tried to do too much with simple characters.

There were some great moments though. The scene with the moronofficer talking to NPH's about his role in starship troopers... completely genius.

The Pineapple Express, I have high hopes for - because I find Seth Rogen consistently funny. Thug life.

it was in every way a 'check your brain in at the door' movie, but yeah, it is to ...white castle what matrix: reloaded is to the matrix:  almost enough to cancel out all the good.

nph was the best part of it.  (excepting the pants-less party's gratuitous display)

I didn't really think that the first Harold & Kumar was particularly good.

Pineapple Express is up to 70% on RT now that more reviews are coming in.  We're going sunday. Stoked.

was it a great comedy?  no.  but i did enjoy the stereotype breaking that was, i suspect, the primary reason for the film.

plus...NPH.  the man is comedy gold no matter where he shows up.   icon_wink

He was funny... a few parts were also funny.  Not saying I didn't laugh, but man... critics acted like it was the best comedy in years.  'Twas not.

I would have to agree that the critics kind of overreacted.  it was funny, but not in the same league as movies like  Animal House, Caddyshack, or Back to School.  Those are classics.

So disappointing. Just a bad movie.

Franco made me chuckle a couple of times and the very last scene was good but that was about it. Something about the whole thing was just off.  thumbsdown

Saw it the other day. hadnt seen a preview, had no fricking clue what it was about... Still havent seen batman, which my friend sclaim is the best movie ever, as such I assume they smoke more weed (They dont) than anyone in the movie....

That being said:

It has its moments in the movie, there were a few scenes that made me laugh, the car chase, the crying call to the girlfriend...  The breaking of the tape...

A few moments of real entertainment..

Then they saddled the shenanigans with a plot that just wasn't that funny pr remotely believable.  And the end of the movie, I can see how it was kinda funny but I was left going: O COME ON!

If they could have ignored most of the plot and just had it all happen haphazardly, it would have been a much funnier movie.  Instead you are stuck watching it in the confines of the plot which actually detracts from the rest of the movie.   They tried to make it believeable in spots, the fight scene with the dealer for one and in other spots its so darn impossible to believe it would happen like that, my head near exploded.

It's not a bad movie, it definately has its moments, but it's not ever going to go down as a great comedy, it was just missing too many things.  Franco however, was great in his role and Rogan was solid.  They have good chemistry together.

Well it's a comparison on "funny" stoner films... smile

I personally thought Grandma's boy would be godawful, saw it, laughed a lot and went away thinking it was pretty funny considerign I expected it to suck nards.

Went into pineapple express with no thought whatsoever and walked out going: "It had its moments, but meh."  As such, I think Grandma's boy was a funnier movie... smile

I thought it was great and hilarious right up to the point where they attack that barn hideout.  That last bit of the movie feels like it was 50% of the running time when I bet it was probably less than 20%.  It just drags on and on.
