Holy shit!  Stimpy over at OO posted this pic of the accident scene:

That used to be a Porche.  I liked Walker in the F&F and am sorry about what has happened.  Unfortunately jokes are already flying on the internet about this.  Its kind of an easy mark.

edited to correct info on car.

Wow, talk about wrapping your car around a tree. Who was Paul Walker? A race car driver?

Skylander, I find the pic in bad taste.

RIP, Mr. Walker. You will be missed. frown

What a shame, such a great actor gone far too soon.

Rarely do celebrity deaths "touch" me, and the only other one that comes to mind was the Crocodile Hunter.. but this really made a good day into a bad day.

RIP Paul.  icon_frown

Yeah make all the jokes you want but the guy was literally leaving a charity event that he organized when he died, what makes it worse is he wasn't the one who was driving, so you can't blame him for being reckless. He wasn't the typical hollywood A-hole.

Single car crash I believe.

He did some stuff for the oceans iirc so it sucks to lose a famous face to bring awareness to the stuff I like.

I have read up more on him. Getting past my bias of the Fast and Furious movies. It is sad that someone died that was actually involved with there charities and went out and got things done.

More than I've done.

Umm, not really. He was known for a series of B movies (I guess, had never heard of him). Sucks the guy is dead, but not sure why the Internet seems to be making a big deal of this one.

Well, you guessed wrong about the B movies.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=paulwalker.htm

He's been in top-grossing films with some hefty budgets. While car rentals and stunt sets would cost them a lot, I'm sure that the cast got a decent chunk of the money.

They're racing / action flicks.

I also very much enjoyed The Skulls.  He was Rob Lowe, without all the creepy.

That makes him really famous to the group of people who like bad racing movies. To everone else he's a nobody. Don't get me wrong, seems like a good guy, but he's just another guy. Lots of good people die everyday.

I'm not getting your point. I said he's a famous guy, and clearly your only point in this is to say "not to me".
So we're supposed to adjust our definition of famous to only be set by "Lee from GT's opinion", and ignore the 1.2billion dollars of unadjusted box office revenue that he's been a part of?

If you want to marginalize him, that's your prerogative - but don't expect people who had a connection to him and his films to appreciate you dropping it in a thread with RIP's in it.

To answer your question as to why - I think the irony of the situation (where one who does crazy stunts in fast cars for a living dies in a fast car he isn't driving in) is too much for the Internet not to take notice of.

Sounds like some idiot driving was trying to show off to the actor, and blam.

I still think it's a bit appropriate, in a dark irony sort of way, to comment on this considering his most recent and well known roles was in a series all about that kind of behavior.

So sad! I loved his movies, especially Running Scared which is my favorite movie with him.

He was also a guy who really tried to make a difference in the world, which is more than most of us have the time / inclination to do in our everyday lives.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Walker.

Stand by my statement then. Doesn't matter how well you drive on the track, you get on surface streets, you drive like a normal driver to prevent the very thing that happened. Again, I think he was trying to show off to this actor lost control on poor surface streets that do not act like racecar tracks.

There's no may about it really. Unless there's a cockpit recorder. It's unfortunate that the driver felt the need to speed but I'm guessing that driving a porsche probably does that to a person. The lesson that I'm taking away from all of this is that when I have a porsche, nobody drives it but me.

They have already pulled the 'Black box' (on board PC) out of it and are looking at security cameras In the area.  They both loved fast cars and I'm sure they loved to drive them fast.  They were in a area known for racing (1 mile loop in industrial zone on a weekend).  Just because they have known each other for years does not mean he was not trying to impress him. They were men and that is what we do.  That being said, not sure it's going to take a super sleuth to figure out that he was driving like an idiot.  I'm having a hard time to feel a ton of sympathy here, outstanding citizen or not.  Stupid acts lead to bad consequences.

My uncle once lost 2.5 fingers working on a ban-saw. He's a general contractor and has worked with power tools all the time. Familiarity breeds recklessness, but tragedy is tragedy, regardless of personal success or skill.

Neither man would have elected to hit a tree at high speeds - it may not elicit a lot of sympathy and whether that is envy, apathy, or some sort of reasoning that this was darwinian in nature, I will miss seeing Paul in movies.

He was not my favorite actor, but I certainly enjoyed him and I liked the fact that he could play more than just "good guys".

With those guys, driving at high speed doesnt have to be about impressing someone.  It is far more likely that, with their hobbies and life styles, they were out having some fun.  Sometimes that just doesnt end well.

Either or they were out on a public street driving fast enough to incinerate the car they were in.  Stupid, and lucky nobody else got hurt due to their reckless behavior.
