Ouch, I guess that's it.

The Pre seemed like a great idea, but just too late for a company that had fallen behind the times.

Well that's not good at all.

And I liked my Palm Pre as well - even though I've yet to purchase a single piece of software for it.

I have a palm pre and its an excellent phone.  Also the touchstone charging system is the best charger Ive ever seen for a cell phone.  I hope HP keeps things going because Id like to say with a palm phone for my next upgrade.

I'm glad to see HP buy Palm, and I hope they keep making the Palm line of phones. The WebOS seems like a good bit of software, and with a credible hardware company like HP behind it, perhaps it'll have time to gain traction in the market. It'd certainly give HP, should it choose to market phones, a differentiation advantage over, say, Dell. Better to have something like WebOS than to become just another Android or Windows Mobile phone vendor selling the same software as everyone else. Commodity models like that kill your profit margins.
