Late Saturday night I started feeling kinda crummy after a birthday celebration for a friend, and today I've not left the bed or bathroom for more than a few minutes at a time. Websites don't give any info other than drink lots of Pedialite (It's the only thing I can keep down thus far). Any advice for me?

Don't stray far from the toilet. Unfortunately, that's the only certain thing with food poisoning...You'll probably feel 100x better tomorrow.

Get medical advice from a Dr. and not a Gamers Forum. FTW! If you see blood you better get to a hospital. If no blood, then you should start to feel better in a few days. I had the unfortunate luck of eating tainted Teriyaki Chicken, it started of with cold sweats, vomiting, and diarrhea. After a day of that, the next thing I felt was like knitting needles being plunged into my guts. I couldn't sleep and went to see a doctor three days after the purging. Donated some poopoo for the lab and got a diagnoses of Campylobacter jejuni infection. Started on antibiotics and a day later I was feeling great.

I've had food poisoning twice and it took about 12-16 hours of hell to get rid of whatever needed to be dumped. Eat what you can but if it doesn't clear up by tomorrow I would go see a doctor.

make sure to stock up on lots of toilet paper and have a bucket near the toilet because chances are you'll need to both vomit and take a dump at the same time.
oh yeah, and for everyone else in your household keep lots of Lysol nearby when you do go in.

Sorry man, I’ve been there more than once and I know it’s pure misery.
I’ve found the first solid food I can tolerate after the vomiting stops is watermelon. At 90% water content it’s barely solid but that’s good. You will feel like you are eating solid food but your stomach will see mostly water and won’t get cranky about it. The water helps re-hydrate you, and the vitamins and minerals in it are good for you too.

When I finally did throw up there was a little blood, but there hasn't been since. I'll ride it out and keep drinking my pedialite. I was able to get some oatmeal down, so it is a start. This sucks...

I'm sorry, food poisoning is the shits(and pukes). Seriously the worst! At least it's only usually really bad for 24 hours. Good luck!

I am about a day ahead of you KD. Friday I ate a chicken burrito from Chipotles, about 30 minutes later I threw it all up. I couldn't keep anything down for the next 20 hours or so, not even a sip of water. Two days later I can eat, barely, and everything coming out of me is a nice bright yellow liquid (sorry). I can function fine for the most part, just only slightly miserable at this point. Playing with the idea of going to the doctor tomorrow for this, but I may try to ride it out. Hope you feel better quicker than I do. It seems a lot of people get better in about 24 hours.

Hey Lee if you feel knitting needles knifing your gut, go see a doctor! I never had stomach pain, it just won't settle. BTW KD, a book that the hospital gave me that describes home treatments says to try ice chips to get water and that you don't need to go to the doctor as long as it doesn't last more than 72 hours (assuming you don't have stomach pain). Once you can keep food down eat bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. If the diarrhea persists more than 96 hours, go to the doctors. (All this assumes there isn't blood or pain, and that you keep as hydrated as possible.)

I was bleeding out the rear for three days before a combined assault of Girlfriend and Mother dragged me to the hospital. I will never eat Taco Bell again, I don't even want to think about what must of been in that food to make me so sick.

How are you feeling KD?
I can keep food down, but have no urge to eat at all for the most part. In the morning I am hungry, but if eat something I am good for the day it seems. Still the only thing coming out of me is liquids so I am trying to constantly drink water. I may go to the doctor tomorrow if I don't feel right in the morning, this is getting old.

Well, I'm keeping food down for a short while. Maybe 1-2 hours. I haven't really slept in days though - I feel like a damned ping pong between the bathroom and the couch. I only threw up the one time (and Jesus, I thought I saw a shoe come out - there can't have been anything else left in my stomach after that nonsense) but the runs have been non-stop. If I don't at least start to feel better by the end of the day today I'm going to swing in to see the doc. This can't be normal....

The last time I got the stomach flu, the runs lasted for like 2 weeks, and, like you, I only threw up once. It SUCKED.

YES! Seriously, I've had it a couple/few times. Lasts usually not more than a day or so. Just don't leave the vicinity of the restroom.

I thought you would have learned from the first time not to go back to Benihana's. I really hope you start to feel better. My aunt (a doctor) always advises me to drink whatever fluids I can, such as Gatorade/Powerade, juices, etc. If it doesn't stay down, it's only liquid. But hydration is a real concern, so make sure to drink what you can. Food can come later. At least it wasn't something I cooked.

The doctor I talked to yesterday did his best Nico impression and gave me some meds. "If you sick, this make you better." He gave me some sort of Probiotic to start off neutralizing my stomach, and then an antibiotic to kill everything else. He said the combo of the two will take care of it - that and 'super-fruit-bananna' because it is full of potassiums. (Yes, plural) On second thought, Nico's English is better.

Food Poisoning is generally a short term illness, 24 hours or less. If youve been experiencing symptoms for several days then theres probably something else going on here and you should see a doctor asap. I had a bout of the flu that lasted 4 days recently. There are also many chronic illnesses that are misdiagnosed as food poisoning such as diverticulitis and Krones disease.

Well, if you had food poisoning, you don't run the risk of passing it on. Now, if you have the stomach bug, you'll know in the next day or two.

Lay down plastic in the living room, fill up about 18 shotglasses with Tequila, lay down on plastic, down all the shots one after the other, wake up 48 hours later free from the affects of food poisoning....
