OS X Mountain Lion

Apple today revealed the next OS X update, Mountain Lion.  Due this Summer, it looks to include some more iOS type features back on the Mac.

Today must be media release day as it seems they had a number of 1 person NDA bound press reveals over the course of the pas week.  http://daringfireball.net/2012/02/mountain_lion has an account of one such meeting.

Just finished installing. Haven't really noticed anything too out of the ordinary except the notification center and the unified notes.

You mean top right? You can change it to an icon or shorter name.

Users and groups control panel, click on login options, and you'll see it as fast user switching menu options.

Waiting on all the early hackintosh adopters to work all the kinks out before I update mine, would like to update my 2010 MBP (work provided) as well but my employer would likely take issue with that lol.

It's sure been useful in Chrome for quite a long time (although mobile support was only recently added).

Safari is freakishly fast. I think it's faster than Chrome. Love the new look as well. Finally, searching in the address bar. That used to annoy the hell out of me.

It's sure been useful in Chrome for quite a long time (although mobile support was only recently added).   

Agree it's great in Chrome which already works across all devices, but I imagine for most people like me who have a single mac, it sucks that it's useless with the iPhone and iPad until the Fall.

Very slick so far. I tried a few reboots and times were between 16 and 18 seconds. That was with restoring mail, Safari, and word with a 80K document open. Safari is on steroids? Speed? Wow. I'm airplaying my MB Air on the 60" TV as I type this.

I just did a side-by-side comparison with Chrome, and while Safari is much faster than prior to Mountain Lion, it didn't load pages any faster for me than Chrome. I think that once iOS 6 is released, it may give Chrome competition then.

I just did a side-by-side comparison with Chrome, and while Safari is much faster than prior to Mountain Lion, it didn't load pages any faster for me than Chrome. I think that once iOS 6 is released, it may give Chrome competition then.

It's been driving me nuts, and consequently, driving me away from Chrome. As I don't need to use dev tools nearly as much as I used to, my need for Chrome has diminished there as well.

Other than that, my side-by-side testing has Safari cleanly edging out Chrome in page load.

Weird, I haven't experienced that at all. And I would think you, of all people, would steer away from anything with Flash anyway.

Oh, I do as a rule of thumb. But many many sites still have flash ads (ours included). As I have to constantly verify our advertising it isn't a simple matter of just disabling or blocking it.

Bookmarks have worked since iCloud was launched iirc. Tabs must require ios 6

It just dawned on me how inconsistent their approach is on this. The entire premise of the iOS interface is to have a circus of colors bunch of app icons you can easily identify at a glance, a premise they even brought to OS X by way of Launchpad.

How is it so hard for them to realize that the same color/shape instant identification is what raccoons are all about?!
