DVD & Blu Ray backing up

First I've been researching this and if the powers that be feel this a pirating topic please lock the thread and I will seek help somewhere else

My DVD & Blu Ray collection is becoming quite large and I want to start backing up some of my earlier purchases. Anyone else do this and which software did you use?

When you say "back up" - do you want complete rips (e.g. an ISO file of the entire disc), or convert the feature content into a digital file(s) for media center use or something similar?

Just the actual movie... Not really worried about additional features.
