Just a heads up that I am running a backup on OO then doing some database maintenance. Sometime this afternoon I will need to shut down the database server while I run some checks; which means obviously the site will be offline temporarily.

Scanning the tables (and repairing); I found a cache table for another database on the same daemon that was a little funky, so I am going through each table within PHPBB3 to make sure we don't end up in a sad state of affairs. |

It does. At least it does here, I've disabled PHPBB3 with that kind of a message. The only time it wouldn't respond is if I had the httpd process offline (which I have once or twice for short periods).
EDIT: Nope it doesn't.. Thanks for the suggestion Wonderpug.. I threw up a message to that effect now.

Now I know you couldn't be talking about me. Because if you were I would have to lay the smack down. It has been a while since I had to make a Canuck cry. Anywho we had to restart once so we could use screen to allow attaching and detaching the session. The actual database is maintained on a $40 dollar HP(lefthand) SAN system that snapshots daily and we send a copy offsite routinely so the is ZERO chance of going though another three months of torture not knowing if we have lost data or not. This is simply a maintenance period trying to deal with performance issues. I am pondering whether or not to move the OO vm or the other VM on the same physical server to another box overnight or maybe this weekend. So there may be more short periods of downtime coming but be assured no longtime outage is imminent. My guess is being back up by 9PM CST. Rip |

Yesterdays lack of ability to post was caused by Fishpants accidentally deleting indexes and having to rebuild. It was corrected and working properly again early Tuesday evening. We will be going down for maintenance and updates again on Friday. See the post on OO for info.

OO's Friday maintenance is done well ahead of schedule.. Search indexes are rebuilding under the new format, but the conversions are completed and so on. Performance will be slower due to the reindexing, but its working and everything else is completed.
