Well it may be needed a little bit. We are going to be moving over to VMware 2.0 and 64bit for OO so we can support more memory. Hopefully helping deal with the huge database and the problems associated with some functions because of it.

Anytime there is any substantial downtime during the process I will try to come back and keep this legendary thread current.

I actually was off OO for a while too.  My New Year's Resolution was to try and reduce my gaming time during off hours, while also cutting down on my OO and GT times while at work.  In these troubled economic times I need to bust my butt if I want to remain employed!

Will be downing the board for a short while tonight as I upgrade to vmware 2.0 on this server. I think it is the last I have to upgrade, or at least nearly the last. Could 64 bit nirvana be far off. Another small step in the performance improvement direction. Should not last more than an hour or two.

Will probably occur between midnight and 2 AM CST.

Seriously, though, I have been to OO via the direct link a few times today.  It's just that this kind of thing seems all to common with OO anymore, even though I admit that by "all to common" I mean in comparison to other game sites that have virtually no downtime of this nature.  I freely admit my expectation levels have been raised pretty high as a result.

There was a lot of talk about it, but not after OO came back up.  Then everyone seemed to forget about the problems and all the talk.

I honestly think OO is a lost cause, though I wish that wasn't true.  It's been long enough to face the reality that they still haven't recovered even to the relatively low level of activity they had before the outage last spring.  And they likely never will.

Think about it: QT3 is run by Tom Chick.  KD is pretty much running the show here (with help, of course).  Who has that role at OO?  It seems like it was weeks after OO went offline last spring before anyone other than Rip came forward and none of us had any idea who's name was actually attached to the site.  Without a strong personality or group of people at its core, no site is ever going to amount to much if only because someone has to take responsibility and provide some sort of vision.  OO doesn't have that.
