QT3 is having problems with their new host as well.  Apparently it's a virtual server setup with a shared CPU and memory limits.  When the load gets too high or one of the other virtual servers using the CPU gets busy, it slows way down.  I guess you get what you pay for at $50 a month to run a site that averages about 750 people at a time on an average night.

Yea, GT was on virtual server for a while.  I fondly recall being interrupted every single day by a "Contact your host" message every time traffic would pick up.  That'd be why GT has it's own server.

if you want to crash OO, simply delete a post immediately after making it.  it brings OO down for a short while.  i've tested it twice now.   i actually switched pages after creating a new reply and then went back and deleted it the second time, but the results were the same.

That was how I did it a few weeks back in my "I killed OO" thread. I think that was at popehat.

Oops.  Then I was the cause of one of the crashes this past week.  I thought it was just coincidence.

Baffles me as well.  This is the kind of bug that should be shared with the admins and the programers of the forum software, not really the community at large.  ninja

I most certainly did not intend for my post to be seen as a "how to"" manual on crashing OO.  I was simply making an observation here that hopefully someone from OO would take note of and perhaps address.  Contacting the admins for OO was not an option at the time as I couldn't get into OO (obviously...hence my post).  By the time it did come back I had moved on to something else and forgot to contact them.

In any case, it's not like i'm the first person to post a "hey i found a problem with the site" message in this thread or at OO on the meta board.   Roll Eyes

I've tried to look at your post and have timed out on 3 separate occasions over the last couple hours.  I can access the main forum page and get into the subsections, but it hangs every time I try to get into a specific topic.

Welcome to "Reasons why KS doesn't use VMWare 101".  Easy to restore, but stability...eh...proof is in the ink in this case.

We always find out proof in the pudding, rather than ink. It gets our tongues all icky and blue.

So I was playing this new VMWare flash game called CrashOO ... its on PopCap games now... or was it Hepcat games?

We will make adjustments and it will get better. Considering the magnitude of the upgrade I am surprised we haven't ran into more issues.

I'd like to point something out:

Quote
Topic: OO off line for a short time  (Read 63433 times)

Two things; the phrase "short time" after 44 pages is clearly subjective; I equate short time to going out to get groceries Tongue... and two, we're fast approaching the sixteenth character in binary for views in this thread. Tongue

So? It isn't offline anymore. The thread has become about so much more. I make special trips here for the sole purpose of checking it. The number of views is just a reflection of my immense popularity and near celebrity status. It has been rumored that the R&P8 was nothing more than my future disciples.

It did go down, even if it was for just a short period of time.  Since it's been back up, it's had more stability problems then any other gaming websited I visit, including QT3, which has arguably weaker server support despite being far more visited.

I've been accessing it all day with no issues.

It did go down, even if it was for just a short period of time.  Since it's been back up, it's had more stability problems then any other gaming websited I visit, including QT3, which has arguably weaker server support despite being far more visited.

Well, it's still pretty new, considering that they fully upgraded their software. Either way, I'm going to ask for my monthly dues back.
