It's not dead. It's washed ashore true.  And some limbs are missing. But it's not dead.

Of course.  It is coming back soon.  They told us so.   icon_cool  What does soon mean, though?

I'm about to the point of converting to GT for good. At this point, if OO rose from the grave tomorrow I think I'd still be spending a lot of time here. I see no reason to split my time when this forum has arguably better software, an arguably better console forum, a dedicated MMO forum, and with the influx of ex-OOers, a now-vibrant Off Topic forum. The only thing I'd really miss would be OO's R&P forum.

There is an R&P forum here though?

I guess P&RN is to long of an acronym though.

But if P&RN were to long, what acronym would it long for?  Just a "P," perhaps?

Sorry.  Long day.

Most of the longing I see around these parts involves some ... well, less than family-friendly acronyms.

I told my wife the other night that if/when OO comes back, I would have a hard choice to make and she proceeded to laugh at me.  Life must be pretty good if this passes for a hard choice in my life.

I've been mostly a lurker here since 2004 when GG went down.  I miss Triggercut's long Obama threads and analysis but other than that, this feels like home.  I think I'll stick around until the GT'ers realize they don't want to belong to a forum that'll have me as a member.  icon_wink

It would be cool if we got a forum games forum and then I'm not sure anymore what OO would offer.  I was never a real member of the family there.  Mostly a lurker, but not one of the real regulars.  More like one of the guys that you see at the bar at Cheers half the time but never really fit in completely.  Make a joke and Norm will look at you and if you are lucky, smile, and then go back to the gang.  I can be a third stringer here as much as anywhere else.  (Gee, did I ever open the door with that one....)

I don't know why, but this over a month OO disapperance is starting to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.  I'm sure the folks are working hard, but I'm not getting any real sense of disappointment from the OO powers that be that we aren't there anymore.  I don't know why I feel that way, but I do.  I will probably change my mind when OO comes back online.

I did have one story that was on the frontpage for a while which was nice, though.

I am sure those of us who click on the OO link in the toolbar each day to verify the status miss it as well.

Those who are simply checking the threads on other forums for updates or news, less so.

I haven't clicked on the OO bookmark for a couple of weeks.  I figure someone here may mention it's back up.

I have to go back: my research on the OO forum members was reaching a crucial stage. I'd just gotten the "alpha males" of the forum to tolerate my presence. I'd manage to tag some of the subjects and was observing their movements via satellite telemetry. However, that's still no substitute for old-fashioned field work. I was just beginning to understand their geek hierarchy when events spun out of control and I fled here.

They are completely different now that Unbreakable is gone. They went from unreadable, to pretty boring.

So I think it is time we started writing limericks and haikus about OO. I shall begin.

There once was a site called OO
Where to talk many people would go
One day it did crash
Without even a splash
When it will return I don't know

Refresh changes not
Why do you lie to me so?

Mountain peaks scarring the view
black clouds obscuring the moonlight
a sound piercing the illusion of tranquil darkness
the cry of a shattered, chained heart
bonechilled I look for the source
So close in its terrifying wail
and at the foot of the uncaring, vast mountains
staring into the river of dark glittering
the hideous truth is finally revealed
the cry was mine, and OO was gone...

Owned by a webhost iconic
Was a forum not too moronic.
A hard drive shits the bed
Word goes out to those who fled,
With a subject line most ironic.
