Meh.  OO is getting ready to update to phpbb3 at some point.  Maybe when Ron updates GT.   But seriously Gedd has some goodies in store.  Rip was a bit disappointed that this didn't happen next weekend though as I think he has a nice new servermagig for SloO to live on.  It would have been nice to come back with a vengeance.   


Edit to say, my meh was not directed at GT.  I like SMF a lot.

SMF is easy to update.  Anyone who has had to update phpbb 2.x in any form can attest that it is a pain in the ass.  You'll be happy with phpbb3.0

Unfortunately as far as I can tell with phpBB3,they're still using a similar search system. It's by far one of biggest weaknesses of phpBB as a whole, and I was a little disappointed to see it return.

So how's SMF treating you guys?

Incredibly well.  It has an incredible feature set, not the least of which is a robust search engine.  SMF 2.0 should go live sometime in the next 3 months and promise a whole bevy of new goodies as well as better performance.  (I just can't roll out the beta in a production environment in good conscience to test those theories)

Disappointed to see they're (SMF) still using tables for layout though. I think phpBB3 has finally moved into the "modern" world of divs/css for layout.

It's interesting how civil this thread is while the comparable one at QT3 (which just started today) has already degenerated into a battle between QT3ers who for some reason hate OO and everyone else.

Turns out it won't let you pull posts by user per forum without a search criteria.  Sad - that's something I do all the time.

I think this is the longest outage we've had at OO since its inception.  It's actually allowing me to do real work AT work! 

I'm not sure I want to live like that...
