Lots of drama between hoster and wholesaler. Waiting to see if our server is sitting in bursts facility or if volumedrive ran off with it.

This isn't going to be a fast recovery.

Man, that's some pretty uncool stuff. I have to imagine that some of the things hosted there are a little more vital than a gaming forum.

Big time.

There are resellers that have hundreds of clients using them. I would imagine there are a few thousand websites offline a number of which are ecommerce sites.

I'm shocked - GT is no longer blocked from work!  I'll have to ration my time to keep it off the black lists.

Wow - reading through the thread on webhosting.  I'm only on the second page but it sure sounds like everything to the last backup is going to be lost (there are 16 pages, so maybe something later would dispute that).

There are several servers that are left at the datacenter. I have seen one that is already back on, we have yet to get verification of whther our server is among them. Will post here when it is known. I think FP is off to work for the day so I will be monitoring the thread for information when it becomes available.

Well crap, just got a PM from Shawn the Burstnet CEO.

Quote
Hi,

Unfortunately, we do not have this server(s) in our possession.
Therefore, the best we can do to help you right now, if to offer you rush setup on server(s) directly with BurstNET, where you will be safe and secure with us.

Steps to order service direct with BurstNET for VolumeDrive Refugees:

1. If you do not already have a BurstNET account, please register one at:
https://service.burst.net/register.php
New users, and existing, respond back to this ticket with your registered email address on the account.

2. Along with the above, please mention prior VolumeDrive server IP address, O/S Hostname, and Server ID.
Server ID looks like: CL-#, CLF-#, SD-#, etc...

3. Include a copy of your latest VolumeDrive Invoice with your email/ticket to us.
BurstNET should be able to beat or match your prior VolumeDrive pricing directly with us, with as close to, or better than server specs.

4. BurstNET will manually enter your order in our system, after which you will receive an order confirmation and invoice.

5. After receiving your invoice, please make prompt payment on that.

6. Once payment is received on invoice, BurstNET will work to place your server back online.
Server will be put on BurstNET IP space, and a new welcome letter emailed to you with access details.
If by slim chance you had BurstNET IP space whilst at VolumeDrive, give us details on that, and we will do our best to get you back on those.
We do not have control of VolumeDrive IP space, and it may disappear or get routed elsewhere soon, so cannot utilize those.

7. You move forward happily ever after, with a stable company in business 23+ years in BurstNET as your hosting partner ;-)

Glad we could be of assistance here, and thank you for keeping your business on our network!

So it looks like we are down to hoping volumedrive shows up somewhere or getting back up via the backup we have.

So I am declaring the next week a OO international holiday. All employees will be on furlough and tourist attractions will be closed. Due to sequestration...of course.

Rip, does that mean it's possible there are ecommerce sites that just went "poof" with no backup?

I would imagine there are some angry people out there right now...

From the thread I'm reading, VD may have had 1000+ servers and BurstNet has about 300 of them.  If VD doesn't come back up - yeah, 700+ servers worth just went poof.

Bummer ours wasn't one of the 300.  You had to know it would be that way though since there had been so little drama over the past few years.  That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.  biggrin

Yep, although offsite backups are a must for something like that. If this had been something FP and I were making a living off of you can bet we would both have backups and would verify them with a test restore frequently. In this case it wasn't that critical and we fell for trusting the e-mail report. Thankfully that should only burn us for 30 days of data. Holding out of course the hope that volumedrive does reappear. That being said I find myself wishing we had multiple offsite copies (We will in the future).

But having lived through the experience that was the start of this thread, I am not even that stressed. We may have to forget July existed, but that is like a five month improvement iirc.    slywink

We appreciate the offer(s), and will advise if resources become an issue. We are communicating via e-mail and other methods actively (well as much as we can FP is golfing with the POTUS or something) but we will form a recovery plan and post our plan of action here for redistribution.

I am starting to think the admins just drop one of the forums offline for a while just so we can have a little OO/GT reunion.

Who is making the shirts this time?  We all know it isn't a real reunion until there is a shirt saying so.
