Does anybody have experience with an online fax service, whereby somebody sends a fax to their number, and they email you the document in PDF format?

Is there something similar to this that's free?

And therein lies the rub.  I've never found a decent one that is free.

Ugh.  I'm trying to get ahold of my immunization records, but I don't have a fax machine, and the hospital that I used to work for refuses to release them without a signed Medical Release Wavier.  Damned HIPPA laws!    :x

I've had eFax for a few years now.  At the time it was free (I think it still is), but I wasn't able to control the area code on the number.  That was an extra cost.  I don't get too many faxes, but on the occasion when I get one it's worked just fine and hasn't given any kind of problems.

Cool.  I'll have to look into that.  The lady at the occupational health office there said to me, when I called, "I told you to do that before you moved!"  Uh, yeah, woman.  I did.  It's just that I lost it during the move.  :x

I'd like to bonk her on the noggin.

You have to 'chat' with a customer service rep, who takes FOREVER to reply, and then won't give you what you ask for.  This was my 'chat' with them, where, in the end, they agreed to send me an email confirming that they will not bill me after another 2 months.  This 'chat' took over 30 minutes.

Please wait for a site operator to respond. You are currently number 1 of 1 in the queue. Thank you for your patience.

You are now chatting with 'Luke D.'

Clay: Hey. I only needed my eFax for a few faxes, and that business is now done, so I want to cancel the account.

Luke D.: Hello, Clay. Welcome to j2 Global's online support. I am Luke, your Online Live Support Representative. How are you doing today?

Clay: good thanks

Clay: The service is great, it's just that I have no need for it. Just needed to get some immunization records for school, and that is now done.

Luke D.: I'm sorry to hear that you wish to cancel. Could you please provide me your PIN for verification purposes?

Clay: Sure, it's xxxx

Luke D.: Thank you for the information. Please give me a moment while I quickly check your account.

Clay: ok

Clay: there are 2 numbers on the account. I don't want either one of them.

Luke D.: I will be right with you.

Luke D.: Thank you for the information. Please give me a moment while I quickly check your account.

Clay: ok

Luke D.: We value your business and our relationship. Hence, if you wish we can waive off the monthky fees for the next 2 billing cycles. This way you will be able to keep your local fax number, which will enable you to send and receive any pending faxes with your number and make sure you do not miss any important faxes.

Clay: I just don't have the need to send or receive, so I would rather just cancel immediately.

Luke D.: Clay, since you will not be charged any monthly fees for the two months you may keep the account till then. If you find that you need our services during

this period, then you will still have the account. If however, you still feel that you do not have any use for our services by the end of the two months credit period you can always feel free to contact us back as per your convenience, we are at your service round the clock.

Clay: I understand. Please just cancel it now, though. I don't want to have to think about it in 2 months.

Luke D.: As a special consideration, I will set our system so that your account will be automatically cancelled at the end of the two months credit period .

Luke D.: However, if during this period, you decide to continue with your account, please send us an email or contact us via chat and we will take care of it.

Luke D.: Would this be fine with you?

Clay: If you send me an email confirming this is what you've done, then it's fine with me. Otherwise, I just want it cancelled outright now.

Luke D.: Sure, I will send you an email right away.

Clay: Ok, thank you.

Clay: Are we done, then?

Luke D.: Or you can also save this chat transcript in your computer and print it for your reference.

Clay: I will do that, too, but also prefer an email.

Luke D.: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.

Clay: o

Clay: ok

Luke D.: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.

Clay: ok

Luke D.: Okay, Clay, I will send the email to [email protected] right away.

Clay: That's great. I appreciate it.

Luke D.: I'm glad that you have decided to stay with eFax for 2 more months! I'm sure that you will have a great experience.

Clay: Do you need any more information from me to confirm this?

Luke D.: No, Clay, that will be all.

Clay: Thank you. Goodnight.

Luke D.: You are welcome.

That sucks that you had to deal with that, Balshazaar.   I just have the free version and haven't had any problems.  I wouldn't have recommended it if I knew they made cancelling such a pain in the a$$.  frown
