Apparently, 3 out of 100 actually click on those spyware pop-ups.  With that, those companies get 37 million in sales.  Positive reinforcement to cause them to continue doing it?  I think so...

Well, for some of the newer problems (DSO Exploit) there is no defense other than not using IE.  MS has to patch it for that one to go away.  Unfortunately you can't just kill a process as it runs as a batch and the file name and registry entry is polymorphic.  These things resemble their virii brothers more and more every day...
