I didn't watch the game but I can't believe they actually called the goalie for delay of game while handling the ball. I don't think I've ever seen that called.
I would feel bad for Canada, but then I think back to the winter Olympics two years ago and I don't feel so bad. The schadenfreude-lover in me is secretly hoping Japan beats the US in penalties again.

Yeah, great game and I'm glad US won, but the turn of events that led to the 3rd goal was just cheesy. Indirect kick for a delay of game seems a bit severe. Giving it at mid field would seem more fair. I don't watch enough soccer to know if what she did was so awful. Do the refs carry a timer or something?
Then the inadvertent hand ball - oh well, stupid stuff happens in sports all the time, this time the US was the beneficiary.

The schadenfreude-lover in me is secretly hoping Japan beats the US in penalties again. Except there was no penalty called in the Canada Vs USA Hockey final that was a major difference maker. The USA just lost that one because, well, they just weren't good enough - and that despite Luongo doing his best attempt to give the game to them. Then the inadvertent hand ball - oh well, stupid stuff happens in sports all the time, this time the US was the beneficiary. I didn't have any problem with the hand ball call (not a bad call IMO) just the free kick alllowed it to occur. The poor officiating is pretty much what I've learned to expect from Womens international football. The bad officiating tends to even out - the Team Canada ladies just haven't been lucky enough to be on the better end of that yet. Anyhow, great game and I enjoyed watching it.

How is it bad officiating to allow an indirect free kick in the box for time wasting? Law 12 clearly states that if a goalkeeper holds the ball for more than 6 seconds, an indirect free kick is given in the penalty area. It's almost never called, but when it is called, that restart is 100% proper.

If it was regularly called and if there were only a couple of minutes left in the game then I could see it happening but it's almost never called (I've never seen it happen) and there was still at least 15 minutes left in the game so it's not like she was trying to run down the last few seconds on the clock. The length of time that she held the ball seemed not unreasonable to me. But then again I'm not a ref. Still it was a good game. I'm definitely hoping that Japan wins again. I would prefer not on penalties though.

After seeing the replays that call is even more ridiculous. Goalies routinely take longer than that to get rid of the ball. I know Matt Reis, the goalie for the Revolution, often takes a small eternity to get rid of the ball and he's never been called on it (that I know of). And yes, Tancredi should have been red carded for that stomp as well, though I think the ref just missed that one.

I have heard the Closing Ceremony(which is not 'directed' by Danny Boyle this time) on Sunday night will feature a host of Music stars from The Who to The Spice Girlswe have had a good medal turnout definitely boosted by the home crowd as they have been cheering their tits off everytime a British athlete's name is announced, not sure we can make 30 Gold(5 away at the moment) but it would be amazing if it happened..and the race for first place is pretty good to watch as well between USA and China The BMX races have been great to watch, the way their legs go up and down over the fast hills makes it look like their legs are made out of Jelly(Yank talk=Jell-o)..oh and there have been a lot of people taking bad falls as well(which brought back 1980 memories for me) Another great game last night for Womens Football USA Vs Japan,Congrats to Canada for the Bronze and a certain Jamaican made another mark

Well the Closing Ceremony started off a tad shit, but it got better as it went on,I think i preferred the opening ceremony though Highlights for me for the Closing Ceremony John Lennon Imagine piece Freddie Mercury Video Screens Eric Idle singing Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life Russell Brand on top of a bus singing Willy Wonka/I am The Walrus Songs From all the artists who appeared(and there were a lot),i think it was only Freddie Mercury and John Lennon who weren't miming
