My God, is Kipper ever pulling a dud in this game! Hey kipper, the trading deadline isn't until after the Olympics and BTW Sutter is watching.  icon_lol

You could say he's flopping around there like a fish out of water.

If he flops around much like that on the Flames, he won't survive until the end of the season.

Yeah, they just announced the IOC won't be investigating the Canadian women teams' conduct last night. Gee, I wonder if one of the officials got a look at one of those gal's nuckles.  Roll Eyes

Yup, and an ugly one at that.  nod

This just in on the continuing saga of our Canadian womens' conduct -apparently Rush Limbaugh has taken a sarcastic shot at the IOC about it...alright I'm switching sides on this right now - shame on those women!  icon_twisted

Finally, finally, finally... a decent matched game. Wow was that ever a great game between Canada and Slovakia. None of this one team doesn't show up, blow out stuff. Bobby Lu in for the final save against his NHL teammate Dimitra...the stuff of legend. I can't believe I'm going to see my 2 favorite players -Kesler & Iginla- go against each other in the gold medal game.  Can't wait till Sunday afternoon.

Man, I thought the Slovaks were going to pull it out at the end... I was rooting for 'em.  When Demitra got that puck I said "THERE IT IS!" to my wife... only to be wrong. frown

While this is primarily a hockey thread, as there isn't much conversation about the rest of the olympics (of which there is a great deal), the United States just ended a 62-year drought in the 4-man bobsled by taking gold today!   dude

It has been an exciting winter olympics this year.  And I can't wait until Sunday's hockey game as well.  Plus, if you consider that I am not much of a hockey fan, but mostly an olympics fan, to develop interest in someone like me means a great deal.  So I will certainly be watching the Canada/US game tomorrow.  But I'm also psyched to have seen some memorable, historic achievements throughout this year's games as well.

You're right! I must have misremembered! Well it's a little late to make one now I guess smile  I wanted to ask peoples' opinion about Canada's cutting of the disabled (practically blind) skier in the 4 man cross country skiing race.  Perhaps that's a question for the PNR forum anyways.

In many ways the bobsleigh events have been the real story of this Olympics with a number of surprises/upsets. The other big story -not so positive- is the total collapse of Team Russia; currently in 6th place overall barely ahead of Korea. There's also something else of historical significance that may be set today - most gold medals ever won by a nation. Currently Canada is tied with the all time record at 13, but if the Canadian hockey team wins today - new record! Go Canada Go!!!

4 on 4 is idiotic. Why do sports change the way the game is played to decide games. I hate penatty kicks in soccer, shootouts in hockey, and the silly college footbal overtime system.

Oh and I think 4 on 4 hockey for regular overtime is stupid too.  I think we can only thank the Lords that this game wasn't decided in the abomination that is shootouts.  Shootouts are fine for regular season but when you're in Game 7 you want that game to be decided in overtime, win or lose (hopefully win) smile

I actually don't mind 4 on 4 if it's just one period. Also it's more likely someone will score and avoid the shootout. Because a shootout would've been just stupid.

Good game Canada.

Spoiler for Hiden:
But why for the love of god did it have to be him.

"crosby's head is getting bigger and bigger by the second. i hope it explodes and he dies before he becomes an even bigger fuckin douchebag" as posted on the Shacknews chatty thread.

I believe this sums up my emotions about Crosby. God I can't stand him. Couldn't before either.

Son of a bitch! It had to be Crosby.  Now the verbal fellatio is going to be 10x worse than normal.  Canada wins? Fine.  Crosby gets the OT goal?

LOL to the picture. And to think it happened in the same city he snubbed the Canadian Hockey League's top prospects game. My opinion hasn't changed too much about him - absolutely amazing talent, but far less than amazing attitude. I'm probably right in saying though, that for 99.99% of Vancouverites -heck most of Canada- this has erased the negativity attached to him.

And just since we don't have a Winter Olympics thread ...with the last medals in hours ago here's the official final top 3 standings.

Overall Medal  Gold  Silver  Bronze  Total
USAGold9151337
Germany    Silver1013730
CanadaBronze147526

We may have only gotten bronze, but we also set the record for the most gold medals ever won at a winter Olympics. That's more than USA, Germany and the even the former USSR - most GOLD EVAR!!!   icon_biggrin thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

There's also a lot more events than there were back in the days of the USSR. A strong showing by Canada overall, though.

True, but remember back in the day the USSR bear absolutely dominated the podium and mauled the competition. They also had a sports system with, even though it was unofficial, professional athletes. Despite all that they could never manage more than 13 golds. Heck with a population roughly 9 times the size of Canada I can easily ponder why the USA hasn't managed to do it yet. slywink

I don't think the climate is the reason for not having the record  -lots of populated US states in northern and mountainous climates- but I'd say that the USA participates equally and very strongly in both winter and summer Olympics is a valid argument. Canada manages to get in the overall medals in just about every winter Olympics now, but we're very far down the list in the summer games. Population isn't everything either and I'm blown away by some of the overachiever nations;  Norway roughly 5 million, 4th place with 23 medals; Austria roughly 8 million, 5th place with 16 medals; Sweden roughly 9 million, 9th place with 11 medals. I mean holy crap, do their athletes start training from the age of 2?!

Canada has definitely benefited from the introduction of the "extreme" sports.  Nowhere to be seen at the biathlon but sno-cross and ski-cross and snowboarding? We're all over that!
