Wow.

My wife Debbie and I were expecting our first child.  He was supposed to be born on the 5th of January next year.  Thursday, Debbie went into early labor.  They tried to stop it, but my son insisted on coming right then and there.  It was quite amazing watching the miracle happen.

David Wesley was born at 12:04 pm Thursday.  For only 30 weeks, he was huge at 4 lbs. 2oz. and 17 in long.  Fortunately the hospital here has a great neonatal unit.  He was rushed there and stablilized quickly.  They've already taken out most of the tubes.  He's doing very well and eating mother's milk (through a feeding tube for the time being).

Debbie is doing great.  She's already back home (though we both still practically live at the hospital).   She seemed 100% better yesterday when we both finally got to hold him for the first time.  We can't wait to take him home.  Originally, they told us Christmas, then they said Thanksgiving.  If he keeps getting stronger, it could be earlier.

I'm getting behind on my email so I thought I'd put this here to reach as many friends as possible at once.  All the kind thoughts and prayers are appreciated.   I'll try to post updates here and on my website for those interested.

Congratulations!  You'll now have many awake nights to cradle the baby, hold the bottle, and play games!

That is just too amazing.  What a cute little bundle of goodness.

And as far as gaming with a baby, my youngest had sleep problems so I played 95% of Deus Ex with him sitting on my lap, slowly falling asleep against me while I unravelled the mysteries of the Illuminati.  This could explain a lot about my son's desire for world domination.

Thank you.  We're thankful that each day he's getting stronger.  The support of family and friends has been amazing.  Thanks again.  One more picture:

Wow, how tiny! Congratulations to you and your wife, and I hope the little fella gets out of the hospital as soon as possible.

Our baby is due on March 11, and the nerves are starting to kick in high gear for me.

Holy crap! He was huge at 30 weeks! My daughter was born at 35 weeks and she was 5lb 12oz and 18". Our hospital was great as well. They basically give me training on how to be a dad. I wasn't ready yet and I used my Bradley Method classes as naptime  . But the positive was that I met my daughter 5 weeks early and didn't have to do anything in the delivery room!

Say goodbye to playing Halo 2 or Half-life 2 anytime soon... slywink

Congrats man.  My daughter was only a few weeks premature and was not much bigger than your boy.  I hope you get him home ASAP, you have some great times ahead of you.

Yeah some sleepless nights, and yeah there will be some scary times as you wonder just what in the hell you are doing being responsible for another human life.  But...its so worth it.  I disliked kids and was quite depressed when I found out we were having a baby.  But now?  I swear to god there is nothing I would trade for our daughter and the emotions she has brought to our family.
