You know, I think they just like working with certain actors, and then find a way to bring them back.

Which they can do, since it's all timey wimey.

There's also Eve Myles, who shows up on Torchwood.

Yeah, there was no connection there.

However, the odd bit here is that Jenna-Louise Coleman was announced as the companion before her episode aired, with no explanation at all.

Now, most likely, they chose her after filming that ep, and annouced her before it went on the air but hadn't decided what to do with her yet as a companion.  Maybe they were hoping to make it the same character, but eventually decided against it.  Since they've picked companions out of previous episodes before, they might have figured no big deal.

However, the timing is just odd.  They should have mentioned that she was going to be in that early episode, at least.  I know I was surprised to see her.  I saw articles saying the same thing.  It certainly seemed like they were teasing her.  There should have been some communication, it seems, that she'd be playing a different character other than Matt Smith off-handedly mentioning it in a fluff video piece before a trailer.

To me, the way they talk at the beginning of that trailer, came off as, "Hey, it's a work of fiction, just go with the fact that this is a new character, fans," but it certainly wouldn't be beyond Moffat to make it connected.  However, why bother with the introduction?

I hope she is the same character or at least connected in a stronger way than Martha was to the other character she portrayed.  Otherwise, it'll seem dismissive and lame, I think, and I'll say boo again.

In the old days, I would have trusted Moffat to handle this right, but I think he's been off his game lately.

You guys are way off base. This is not even remotely like recasting Freema as Martha. This was completely planned. I'm not saying the payoff will be good, but there will definitely be a payoff/explanation of some sort.

I'm sure it will look better in motion, but from that pic, it looks like a bluescreen.

So, what do people think of the Christmas episode?

Spoiler for Hiden:
Interesting how they've handled Clara returning, making it a larger part of the next season. I completely forgot that the Doctor never saw her face.

Also, I want to see Vasta and Jenny Flint have their own show, or some kind of spin off media. Mainly because I like both actresses, but also because they definitely have chemistry as characters. Hopefully they appear more in the coming season.

I liked the Christmas special. Jenna Louise Coleman is adorably hot and it'll be interesting to see how her character pans out and how they develop her, but the back-and-forth chemistry between the two seems to be there already. I liked the older Tardis interior a little better than the new modern looking one. It had a quirky charm with it's random steampunkish array of gears, levers and switches.

I really enjoyed it. Certainly far better than last year's special.

As a Who nerd it was fun to have the Great Intelligence back - especially voiced by GANDALF~! I found it interesting that the Doctor didn't quite seem to remember who and what the Great Intelligence was. It makes me wonder if it will be back this season. Obviously, the Clara/Oswin mystery is interesting too. Looking forward to the rest of series 7.... (wish we didn't have to wait until April.)

I liked it too. I liked most of the episodes this season more than previous Matt Smith episodes, actually.

Oh dear lord, please make the Sontaran a permanent side kick.  You hear me, BBC?

Seiously, the character is hilarious and the back and forth between he and Smith was priceless.  If they can't make him a companion, then create a spin off with the ladies and make him a cast member.

The scenes in which he was trying to get the "memory worm" and kept forgetting to wear the gauntlets was only funny because of his timing.  I actually laughed out loud when he tried the second time while under the cart and yelled out, "Sir, I seem to have been run over by a carriage!"  icon_lol

Potato Head was my favorite part of a fantastic episode.

I laughed out loud frequently with him (and the carriage bit was just perfect, I agree).  There was a shot of him in the teaser at the end, but I certainly wouldn't complain if he was a permanent addition.  Or a spin-off with the Holmes ladies.

Also, glad to see my fears were unfounded about Clara.  But even if it hadn't gone that way, she has such an infectious energy (and is so adorably hot as spigot says), that I know I would have gotten over it.

I just busted out laughing all over again reading that. He was indeed hysterical.

I think they were randomizing seasons but watched the two episodes of a "Who Years Eve" marathon that took us up to midnight. I don't remember the name of the first one but it had a bus, a wormhole, fly people, metal stingrays and a nice looking almost-companion thief named Lady something or other. The last one was "The Waters of Mars" and that one certainly was a little... different. Tennant was awesomely conflicted and maniacal in it, not suprised it won a Hugo. Still, unsure how the survivors ending up explaining how they managed that.  icon_confused

After that was "The End of Time" but didn't feel like staying up another three hours so tivo'd it for later.
