I was at both games in London... good times.
Bernier gives me hope for the Kings this year. LaBarbera does not.

Although, news that both home openers in Detroit and Colorado failed to sell-out disturb me a little bit...

I can only imagine that my Leafs will do even worse than they did last year *sigh* After about 10 years of good times (maybe even longer) it looks like they're turning back into the "Make Me Laughs" of my elementary school days.

Well, at the last minute, I caved and picked up Center Ice so I could watch my beloved Islanders.
Shortly thereafter, I was questioning my decision as Buffalo simply dominated the first period. It seemed like Buffalo was playing against a high school squad. The Isles couldn't complete a pass. They couldn't get out of their own zone. Their defensive play sucked. Yet timely penalties by Buffalo kept them in it and they ended the first period tied 3-3.
The second period was a whole different story. The Islanders seemed to get stronger as the period went on. They still were trying for too many cutsie passes and not generating enough shots. They weren't playing positionally sound hockey. But they looked better. They still looked like they were holding off a better team.
And then it happened. They looked like they were playing their A game and somehow, it seemed like Buffalo was off of their game. Even 5 on 5, they looked like the better team. And in the end, they got the W. 6-4. I'm not convinced we have a good team, but at least they showed flashes and I was entertained.
Rematch tonight.
I sure hope I get the Islanders PbP/color commentary guys tonight. It was hard to listen to the Buffalo guys last night.

Canucks start the season with a thud. 3-1 Loss to SJ. Hopefully tonight is better, since I now have my brand new HDTV set up, so I can watch the Canucks on HNIC HD tonight!

3-2 to open the annual west coast road trip. Not too shabby!
The bad news is Fernandez has sucked and while Tim Thomas has been outstanding, he's always good in the beginning and fades by season's end. So we need Manny to come around at least in another couple months.
So far Ottawa and Detroit have been the standout clubs, but after that there's a whole lot of 4, 5 and 6 point teams.

Last night was just pathetic. I was trying to come up with something to say to make fun of them but all I do is feel pity for whoever is the goal tender. They better send Bernier back to the minors before he is permenently damaged. docD

Stuart is a California boy, so his preference is to play somewhere around there. Of the three Cali teams, LA was the best fit (and most likely to offer him a contract). When he was in Boston there were always constant rumors his wife wanted to leave Pronger-style and that he didn't like the New England weather. He definitely didn't play up to his potential here, and was downright awful the month or two before we traded him. Rob Blake has been declining pretty consistently the past few years, hasn't he? Visnovsky was pretty awful when the Bruins played them the other day, but your entire defense was out to lunch. Good thing ours was just slightly better.

Visnovsky is supposed to be a Norris darkhorse candidate every year and just was resigned to a long term deal this summer... but has been uniformly terrible. Blake has been declining, but he's usually at least adequate. Right now I am more comfortable with the Johnson/Modry pairing than I am with anyone else, and I HATE Modry. gellar

Well the Devils beat my Pens last night. What a crazy game. Fleury looked really bad in net and gave up at least 2 really soft goals. Dare I say the Devils actually were playing a very exciting and fun to watch brand of hockey.......
And what was with that officiating last night... there were some really "great" calls on both sides, and some really bad calls on both sides.
