Stuart still dropped the gloves first which was the argument used in the Staubitz-Reaves situation, when Staubitz was only given an unsportsmanlike, instead of the instigator and 10-minute misconduct he should have received. Pick and choose all you want, also.
ain't no picking and choosing with what Warren Peters did.

I have no problem with the whole team jumping a guy if they felt a teammate took a cheap shot, but your taking a chance with what happens after that.
Someone runs a goalie, ends Marc Savard's career, whatever, you do what you think you should to defend your team.
Good for the Wild if that's what they thought. If they get suspended/fined/etc. that's a chance that they took.

Peters was suspended for just today's game against Boston for his crosscheck to the head of Backes.

Man, Canucks are rolling. Everything is starting to come into place, lots of offense from all of the lines.
Best part is, they are just playing hockey and avoiding the after the whistle bullshit.

The Canucks' real test comes on Thursday when they face the Wings and try to stop their unbeaten at home record. They also play the Predators and Devils this week too - Devils the night right after the Wings. If they can keep it rolling and get points out of those, that would be something.

Which is a joke. Viciously cross-check someone in the side of the head and only sit for one game. Must be because it was a Blues player who got hit. Put a Red Wings Jersey on Backes and Peters would have gotten 5 games.

Put a Red Wings Jersey on Backes and Peters would have gotten 5 games. Illogical Blues fan is illogical. You really need to take your homer glasses off and chill out about the Blues. Did you even WATCH the video explaining why Peters only got a game? I bet you didn't. The reasons why Peters only got one game are sound, logical, and fall in line with the rest of Shanahan's suspension videos. There's no anti-Blues/pro-Red Wings conspiracy in the NHL. You keep going on and on and on about it, and your arguments about it have reached levels where almost nothing you say about the Blues and their actions can be taken seriously anymore, especially when you continue to get minor stuff wrong. The whining gets old. Hell, have you seen me whine about Rene Bourque getting suspended twice this year when he was on the Flames? Have you seen me whine when Jarome Iginla was headbutted in the middle of a fight? Have you seen me whine when Tim Jackman was headbutted when he was crossing the blue line? No. Because there are better things to do than to get all frothy about the shit that happens in the NHL, by and to every team. Because there is no conspiracy. Finally, you keep harping on things the Blues have done against them, but not the stupid stuff they do themselves. For instance, if Backes hadn't been running around like a crazy person at the end of a 4-0 game, he never would have put himself in a situation where the Wild felt the need to retaliate. I notice that you're pretty quiet about Pietrangelo wildly swinging his stick and Reaves sucker punching John Scott in the back of the head after their fight had already gone to the ice as well at the end of yesterday's Blues/Blackhawks game.

Oh, god. I think the Caps, as currently constructed, are done - there's a compelling case to be made that this year's edition is the most disappointing team since the lockout. Either they pull some panic moves and restructure at the deadline, or they miss the playoffs and GMGM and Hunter are done - they're managing to out-fail the Panthers, who are trying impressively hard to fail out of the playoffs themselves. The players are simply unable or unwilling to execute Dale Hunter's system, and instead of learning it as they go along, they're actively rejecting it and falling all over themselves. Tonight's loss was one of the worst I've seen in years - there was just nothing for the team to be proud of. Embarrassing, and I feel for the Caps Road Crew, who was there in force tonight.
On the plus side, any of the bandwagon fans that stick around will be part of the same club as those of us watching since the 90s.
The consensus among Caps fans right now seems to be that we might as well pull for the Ducks to make the playoffs, so we have a good story to cheer for.

I'd be looking forward to easier access to Caps tickets if Leonsis hadn't already announced a ticket price hike for 2012-2013.

If they were GETTING Columbus' 1st rounder and Carter for nothing, I wouldn't do it.

Considering the game went to a shoot out which still gave the Wings a point, he probably won't be quite as over joyed.

I'm not sure if I would be happy about 6 more years of a $5.2 mil player who is liable to injure himself when breathed upon. But getting some value for Jack Johnson is a positive.

I'm not sure if I would be happy about 6 more years of a $5.2 mil player who is liable to injure himself when breathed upon. But getting some value for Jack Johnson is a positive. There's lots of things wrong with Carter, but his contract and his injury history aren't them. He's averaged 70+ games per season, even including this one (where he's been injured and the season isn't even over yet). Averaging 28 goals per year isn't bad either, again counting this season. I'll happily take that for $5.2M a year. His comparables page on Capgeek is pretty full of players who are worse with similar Cap Hits (with a few exceptions of course). Also you're incorrect on the length - it's actually 11 more years. Contact doesn't expire till 2022. If he continues to produce at the level he has historically, it's a good contract. If he produces at his higher levels, it's a great contract. If he goes all Penner on us, it will suck a whole lot. If you want to find something wrong with Carter, you should point to the fact that he pouted when he went to Columbus (not that I blame him), partied too hard in Philly, and potentially will party too hard in LA. There are lots of potential character issues at play. But his production and cost for that production... those are good. The other thing I'm really happy about is that with Johnson gone, Slava Voynov slides back into the top 4 of the D Corps. I actually think that guy is better at every positive aspect of hockey than Johnson, so we get an upgrade at both positions. Yay.

I was hoping for a a little Bertuzzi spin-o-rama magic there at the end to win it. Wings started off decent but kinda lost of their focus. Lucky to have gotten a point at all. I really wish I'd been able to watch Wings/Canucks. Stupid gamecenter blackout. I don't know what to do for the playoffs... hook the cable back up?
I have been looking for streams when I can't get the FSD or Vs channels. Not always great quality but certainly viewable. http://www.lshunter.tv/hockey-live-streaming-video.html usually gets a selection of views.

Wow that website is really interesting. The entry about Nash in particular makes me very nervous about any potential trade with the sharks where Pavelski is being named as the primary return piece.

We suffer from the same problem here. I resort to online streaming, which sucks.. but works and is free. google p2p4u.net And goddamit, the Wings are good and that was without Datsyuk. Nice to see the Sedins come up big against an amazing team, and Burrows is just clutch. Please god let this be the conference finals, clean skilled hockey.

The CBJs are good at making bad contracts. At this point, the GM is just trading one bad one for another. Getting rid of Vermette (decent center) for a bad AHL goalie (We've already got a bad ECHL goalie in York) and a 2nd round draft pick (not that we've done well at that). Carter (who didn't want to be here) for a conditional first round and Johnson. It's no wonder we're last in the NHL...

Have fun with that kron, tomorrow night you'll be playing a real team!! Agreed, I think tonights' game will be as difficult for the Canucks as their game on Tuesday was against the Preds. The Canucks have one of the best away records in the league, so maybe that will factor in. I haven't heard whether Luongo will be in net, but it would be cool to see 2 hometown boys face off against each other between the pipes. Freaking crazy Eastern conference - Winnipeg jumps from 9th to 3rd in 1 night!
