I still can't quite believe that my Cardiac Caps are in the playoffs.  Tarik El-Bashir, the Post's hockey writer/blogger, actually waited until just before Game 1 to officially un-ban the p-word from his blog (not that it hadn't slipped in there a few times when they, you know, clinched their spot).

Then to win Game 1 like that, falling back 4-2 and then the young guns storming back with three unanswered...

I LOVE THIS TEAM!

Seriously, between Mike "Game Over" Green, Cristobal "The Man From France" Huet, Brooks "Go to the Net" Laich, Sergei "An Oldski but a Goodski" Federov, Niklas "I'm Not That Goalie" Backstrom, Viktor "Russian #4" Kozlov, Alexander "Stick Infraction" Semin, and of course, Alex "Russian Machine Never Breaks" Ovechkin... I'm more excited about this team than I ever have been.

Yes, that includes 97-98.

And with Chris "Dead Man Talking" Clark and Michael "Rudders" Nylander having a shot to come back later in the playoffs, and Brian "HEADSHOT!" Pothier maybe deciding not to retire after getting the hell concussed out of him earlier this year, next year could be the first year the Caps aren't carrying any dead weight on the roster in ages, especially with so much youth in the system starting to finally insulate the team from the dreaded injury bug (though making the playoffs with less than half a season from two top-six forwards and a top-four D-man is still pretty damn insulated).

I can't wait for 2:00.  The Phone Booth is going to be rocking, Briere is going to be a punk, and "The" Donald Brashear is going to have on the foil.

Well after a throughly exciting WSH/PHI game 1, that was a thoroughly unexciting one. Washington looked like they didn't even want to play today.

In other news, the Bruins have a lead against Montreal for the first time this season. Yes, that's 11 games worth. I give it 5 minutes.

Boston almost made it 20 minutes! Tongue

I have never seen anything like Avery in Brodeur's face in my life.  The waving and stick waving seems like it should be in a movie not a game.

Just turned on the Sharks game and WOOOOOT!!!!

I gotta say though, those Canadian fans know how to do it with wearing the correct color in the playoffs.  The whole crowd is red.

Also the VS announcers are sucking the d**** of the Flames....WTF just broadcast the game fools.

Leo:

The announcers are actually the CBC announcers.  VS is just hopping off the CBC feed.

As bad as the Flames looked that first 3:30, that Sarich destruction of Marleau has waken up the team, and the crowd.  It's on like donkey kong now.

Oh yeah?  How so?  Because Sarich didn't get a penalty for a totally clean body check?

And you did see the penalty called on the Flames at the start of the game, right?  That's working for the Flames?

Yeah it's not a big deal really, I'm just pissy because every time I start watching the Sharks they fall apart.  I can't even go to games because it's auto-lose.

The momentum completely flipped from San Jose to Calgary the instant Sarich blew up Marleau.

The Sharks are such a soft team.

I watched the game and all I can say is WOW that was 1 helluva hockey game; best game I've watched so far in this seasons playoffs! I'm thinking that this game might just turn out to be a fateful loss for the Sharks; they really should have held on to that game for a win. The result exemplified what I like about the flames; a team with a lot of heart and a don't quit attitude spearheaded by Iggy. Beautiful irony and icing on the cake that Nolan put the winner in the net.   slywink thumbsup

Yeah it looks like our playoff exit will happen one round early this year.  I wish that 20 game win streak would have started a little later in the season so we could have won in the playoffs instead.

F'ing knew it.

Avery was hilarious.  I've never seen anything like that before, but I approved.   icon_cool

As soon as Marty got his head taken off by Callahan I knew they were going to take it.  The Devs rallied around him and that was it.

Callahan is quickly becoming my favo(U)rite player.

Much as I would like to say that was a cheap shot and dirty play, it wasn't.  Looked like a very clean strong check to me that just caught the other player with his head down.  While I will be the first to tell you how dirty and cheap the Flames can be, that play was pure hard-nosed hockey and a great check.  I'm just shocked that anyone would make it to the NHL and have their head down like that these days.

I wouldn't be writing the Sharks off yet. Notice how I stated in my earlier comment that "it might just turnout to be a fateful loss". There's reasons I used the term "might" and there's factors we shouldn't loose sight of in this series. One of them being that the Flames are coached by someone that's, if it's at all possible, capable of singlehandedly loosing a series for their own team. The Sharks have Nabokov between the pipes who's quite capable of putting on his own impersonation of a brick wall; already has 1 shutout. The Sharks have a helluva lot of talent that's going to be hard to contend with if, and it's a big IF, they click on all cylinders.

Where the Sharks could most be in trouble is that IMO they don't have a leader like Iggy. Marleau has good talent, but I've never been overly impressed with him as a captain. Thornton has heaps of talent and is an outstanding playmaker, but I don't think he's there yet in the leadership department. And when you don't have a captain to lead you usually rely on a veteran who would be - UGHH Roenick!
