Sharks clinched a playoff spot last night and are currently #2. I am curious to see who we get paired up with. I hope it's the Ducks because I really want the Canucks up against the Hawks - might as well take on their biggest postseason nemesis 1st round rather than later. Of course my real dream match-up would be Canucks-Flames, and I'm still hoping through nothing short of a miracle that it happens.

The Blues did their job and kept Calgary's hopes alive by letting them win in the 3rd period. We can't have the 'Hawks in the playoffs, ya know.

Let's wait a few more years for the Leafs to open up their immense wallet and pay for players who will give us a shot.
That immense wallet does no good in a salary cap world.

Well Devil's season is finally officially over. Also, the Wings now have 20 straight playoff appearances and 11 straight 100 point seasons.

Bill McCreary reffed his last game yesterday. Sad to see him go. With losing one of its reliable vets the NHL's already terrible officiating just got worse.

That immense wallet does no good in a salary cap world. It does when you have a truckload of cap space left, which the Leafs do.

Dallas helped their own cause by squeaking past Anaheim last night. It helped that the Ducks had two goals waived off in the third. Tripping the goalie is kind of frowned upon. Koivu tripped Lehtonen as he was moving to block the first of these. And Ryan's goal was waived off, as it was a by-the-book call of a hand pass, as Perry gloved the puck down, but couldn't connect with it due to the defender and Ryan was the first to touch it as he flipped it in the goal.

I could be an ass and point out 20 straight playoff appearances is not the NHL record, but then you would probably mention that silly Stanley Cup things.

I know it's not a record, though the 11 100-point seasons is. As long as we have Ken Holland and provided Lidstrom's retirement isn't totally catastrophic I think we might be able to hit 30 seasons of playoffs.

Sharks, maybe...Caps...I just don't see it happening.
As much as I hate to say it, I see Philly representing the east this year.

I'd go with Philly vs. Vancouver. Unoriginal #1 seeds choice, but those really do seem like the two best teams in their conferences if they're playing well.

Less than zero chance Vancouver comes out of the West.

Calgary should beat up on Edmonton tomorrow and hopefully the Blues will beat the crap out of Chicago, so all those bandwagoning 'Hawks fans can stay home instead. Right now, I doubt anything could make me happier (sports-relatedly) than the Blues keeping the 'Hawks out of the playoffs - with a little help from Calgary.

Damn loser point for Chicago.
Flames practically have to win out and hope Chicago doesn't win another game the rest of the year to make it in. Too little too late for the Flames.

Sadly, this means rooting for the Red Wings.... twice On the Caps, Ted Leonsis is an awesome owner. Before games and during period breaks, he walks around and chats with fans. Blogs regularly about the team. And just seems to be an all-around good guy. He sure has resurrected hockey in D.C. Of course, Ovechkin helped.

Well, it would help if STL wouldn't give up three unanswered after a 2-0 lead. To be fair, the first was a blown review where the puck crossing the line was questionable, even after the kicking motion that put it onto the line.

Game should never have gone to OT. It only went there because of the goal that clearly should not have been a goal. No way in hell Dan O'Halloran saw that puck completely across the line, yet he signals goal. If he doesn't signal goal, it isn't allowed because of a) the kicking motion and b) the puck never being completely across the line. BS win. Oh.. thank Davis Payne for starting the sieve Ty Conklin in net. The Blues chat forum was pissed tonight. A chance to beat the Hawks in the last matchup of the season and they put Conklin in goal???? Stupid! If they wanted to give Conklin a last game, don't do it against Chicago. Bummer about Zetterberg. That is going to hurt. Start rooting for Dallas.

Since I live here, I do. After Buffalo, of course. A STL win would have given Dallas a game in hand to make up two points on CHI. Calgary has already played two more games than Dallas and is two points ahead, Dallas should be able to leapfrog them, but the real task will be trying to leapfrog Anaheim to get into 8th. I'm not confident.

Holy crap, you aren't kidding. How on EARTH was that considered a goal?! At least 99.9% of hockey fans feel the same. There is a 36 page thread on the Hockey's Future forum lambasting that call. I swear - the fix was in to ensure the Hawks make the playoffs. When Toronto reviews that for 10 minutes and still calls it a goal??? WTF???
