As your picks came after kickoff, should all the early games be voided?

Does it matter at all?  This is for bragging rights and nothing more... who cares?  If it matters to you, don't count them in your head... which is probably the only place it counts for something.

SD @ BUF   - SD - Damn...  I kinda expected a loopy edwards...
PIT @ CIN  - PIT - yay
TEN @ KC  - TEN - yay
BAL @ MIA - BAL - yay
DAL @ STL -  DAL - grumble
SF @ NYG  -  NYG - yay
MIN @ CHI -  CHI - yay
NO @ CAR  - NO - grumble
DET @ HOU  - HOU - yay
IND @ GB   - IND - grumble
NYJ @ OAK - NYJ - grumble
CLE @ WAS - WAS - Yay
SEA @ TB  - TB - yay
DEN @ NE - DEN
so 8-5 so far?
The only games I would have considered changing I got wrong might have been indy and NO....   I blame bush being hurt hurting me and the thought peyton manning and his crew were back as opposed to still confused on how to play the game... smile  I expected buffalo's edwards to not be as good as he was today after the shellacking they took a few weeks back.  He really does make thier offense go...  good for them, they might not suck this year after all.

Crazy game in Oakland yesterday.

Also what's up with most of the teams that were supposed to be good, sucking all of a sudden???  Especially the Colts!

That kick would've been good from 5+ yards more.  Amazing.

Now why in the heck would that news be put out prior to the game. What's his motivation now?

In any event, HECK YA for Michael Singeltary getting a shot. What an awesome linebacker he was and from what I remember, a great guy too.

Ummm... I am a Pats fan and am glad to see him on the IR.

He was CLEARLY hurt and sucked when he played. Now they can move on with Morris/Faulk/Jordan.

Sorry, thought you were talking about Nolan.  I assumed the link was the link to Nolan's firing

I thought you might be referring to the 1st Quarter of this game: Fumble, Fumble, Punt. Not a very good start for Denver.   crybaby

Nope - I'd like to see the Niners get back to the top (except for last year when the Pats had their pick!)

Well, if anything, this satisfies the instant gratification Niner fans craved to appease all their frustration. It does for me at least. I got to the point where I could not stand to even see Nolan's face or listen to his incoherent ramblings without wanting to punch his face. He is quite possibly the most ignorant sounding coach in pro football. I pray Mike Singletary can be different and rally the team the rest of the season. I am of course, skeptical. Singletary has been a Nolan disciple for four years now. It is quite possible he'll just be more of the same. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

The reality is that firing Nolan does little in the big picture. The incompetence is organization wide, starting all the way at the top with owners who couldn't give a flying crap about winning and have literally no clue how to run a pro team, down to the GM, who excels at picking players who will never be more than average backups on any other team, down to guys like Paraag Marathe, a bean counting suit who is fulfilling some sort of wet dream to be a football guy by sitting in the coaches box handling replay duties. I kid you not. So, while we get some satisfaction that Nolan is finally gone, the depressing fact is that the owners cannot fire themselves and the current personnel evaluators on the team are horrible. We are literally back to the same state of the team when the Yorks took over. The last 4 years were nothing more than a colossal waste of everyone's time.

I laughed my head off when the Niners hired Nolan, since I remembered him well as the Redskins defensive coordinator from 1997-1999.  Nolan's defenses tended to be awful, so I had a real hard time imagining he'd even be a decent head coach (I was actually shocked he got another job as a defco in 2000 for the Jets).  For reference, his Redskins defenses were ranked 16th, 24th, and 30th in 1997, 1998, 1999.  In 2000, the year after he left, the Skins were ranked 4th...

The best Nolan story from his Redskins time, from John Feinstein's excellent book, Next Man Up.

Quote
Early that season, after a Redskins loss, Snyder told Nolan that his defensive calls were “too vanilla.” Like the other coaches, Nolan had figured out by then that trying to explain football to Snyder was pointless, since he already had the game figured out. A few days later a gallon of 31 Flavors ice cream showed up on Nolan’s desk with a note that said, “This is what I like. Not vanilla.”

Nolan laughed and sent Snyder a note: “Thanks for the ice cream. My kids enjoyed it.”

“The first time it was actually kind of funny,” Nolan said. “I didn’t mind it at all.”

The next time wasn’t as funny.

The Redskins lost on the road to Dallas, and Nolan went into his office late Sunday night to start looking at game tape. When he arrived, there were three giant canisters of melting 31 Flavors ice cream on his desk with another note: “I wasn’t joking. I do not like vanilla.”

I don't think he asked Snyder for a job recommendation.

True. Its also pretty sad commentary about the AFC West when Denver is still in first place.

The franchise has been in a downward spiral since the Yorks took over in 2000, and is a major factor in why we decided to let our season tickets go this year after almost 40 years in the family (that and the "minor" ticket price increase this year which turned out to be almost 30%).

However, to be fair, the past couple of drafts have been pretty solid.  There is some talent on this team - a qb and a different coach could do wonders, but it won't really matter until ownership changes.  Singletary won't be able to change much, and I still think they should have gotten Cam Cameron as OC rather than Martz, he's a much better fit for their personnel.

Looks like I remembered correctly:

Quote
Before becoming the new boss, Mike Singletary sought permission from the old one. He tracked down Mike Nolan, his longtime friend, for an emotional conversation. "Before I could say a word," Singletary recalled, "he just said, 'I want you to take this job. I don't even want you to blink. What we built together has come to an end. But it's up to you to take it to the next level.

I hope he does well enough to lose a few superbowls to Buffalo slywink.
