For those who don't know...

Our very own Jacktard was at the 2005 NFL season opener last night to watch an overbloated opening show (that actually wasn't all that bad to be honest), as well as to see the Patriots beat the Silver & Black.  (Not a half-bad game either, all things considered).

It certainly looked like it was a fun time, if of course, you are a Patriots fan, which I am not.

Anyway, hope you had fun.  I know if the Steelers ever get to have something like that in my lifetime, I would almost kill to be there.

I can't tell you how happy I am football season has begun.  It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Good time!

I could get used to this whole, opening night/Championship banner thing.

Game was kinda 'eh' but I did get to boo Kanye West, among others!

Got home at 3:30AM. Not fun.

Most annoying? Colts or Giants weren't playing.

I guess the Pats could be considered annoying if consistently winning is something that rubs you the wrong way.  Tongue

Wow,  Congratulations, Devil!  Way to go!

I watched it on television, but I didn't see you there... oh, that's right - I don't know what you look like!

And Rage, c'mon - give us a break... how many zillion seasons did we have to lose to deserve a winning streak?  Tongue

I'll take it!  We had a great first half but nearly gave it away in the end.  Not bad though.  Nolan seems to be playing it pretty loose.  Three trick plays in the first half.  I like the "Why the hell not?" attitude.  Let's see how long it holds up.

I have lived in Pittsburgh all of my life.  I have yet to see this Steel City Cheesesteak you speak of.  Must be something a restaurant was selling to the gullible tourists as a "traditional cullinary delight."

Cheesesteaks are a Philly thing, they can keep that crown. We don't want it, and they do it better.  We have to let them do at least one thing better anyways.

As for overrated quarterbacks, Who is in the top spot of your roster?  Might want to check your roster out before you go out handing out lables like that.  Such those tags might all belong to your guy.

And what's more, our "Overrated Quarterback" beat his "Quality Opponent"  with only 11 passes and a perfect QB rating.  All your boys had to do is stop the run.  41 times.

But sure, curse our boys, I'll take the W nonetheless.

I just don't think Rage likes winners.  First the Patriots, who I've honestly not heard too many negative things about (maybe he doesn't like the lack of adversity?) and a QB that is considered over rated despite losing 1 game in his entire pro career.  Granted, he's not the second-coming (yet) but he's done a good job and his team wins.  Screw this, I'm a Browns fan and thus oath-bound to hate the Steelers so enough of that.  Well, I love Hines Ward but that's okay because he went to UGA.  So yeah.

So what's the deal, are you like the world's biggest Terrell Owens fan or what?  Everything up is down and good is bad.  Why all the rage, Rage?

Pffft. Agreed.  That, and it took our secondary much too long to realize  that Deion Branch needs to be covered.  For the Whole game.  Each play.  That was inexcusable.

Much as it falls on the coaching staff that we have so many playoff losses. At least we are getting to the playoffs very consistently for the whole of their tenure. I'll continue to count on their ability.  Sooner or later it's bound to work out

I don't get the whole Pats backlash.

There's no one on the team who is an idiot like say that dope on the eagles.

They're not cocky.

They just get the job done and as far as I can tell are pretty humble about it.

Is this just a 'hate the winner' type backlash?

And the Iggles lose their opener.

And guess what?  Even though I KNEW it was going to happen...

...the fans all over town are pulling out the Trotter trump card as the excuse for the loss.

I can not express in words how much I despise most Eagles fans in this city.  You think your home city is filled with whiners, babies, and excuse makers?   Move to Philly - cause you ain't seen NOTHIN' until you come here.

I can vouch for the credibility of this quote.  It's the reason why I absolutely abhor the Eagles, the Flyers, and the Phillies.  Just say this to an Eagles fan and see what happens.

That's one of the reasons (he should know better), Akers missing 2 FGs is another, but the main reason they lost was because McNabb didn't come through when he needed to. End of story.

On another note:
I'm so effin sick of Michael Vick and the hype that surrounds this guy. Sure, he ran for a TD, but then dissapeared!?!?

156 yards passing, an INT, 3 fumbles, ZERO passing TDs and 55 QB rating!!!!

ABC even had the balls to tack that TD he scored to the end of the highlight reel showing the greatest plays in MNF history!!!!

He's NOT A QB!!!

Succumb yourself to the Michael Vick hype machine! He will be better with his passing! You will see! He is just learning a new system last year and will improve his accuracy with the new WR they drafted this year!

Arg, I am glad that I am not the only one sick of Vick's insane media hype. People kept on saying that we should overlook his passing stats because he wins games. Guess what, without that defense and Warrick Dunn, we would not be talking about how Vick wins games.

Not that I am totally biased being a Bucs fan

Nope.  He's got a cannon arm, and he's got a QB skill set that's fantastic on the college level.  In the NFL, though, no way.  He needs to realize his legs won't be there forever.

Also found it ironic that when Madden wasn't ballwashing Vick, he was all over Hall.

Let me tell you something, you old, giant, bushy-eyebrowed, clown!
For how 'special' Kordell Vick and Hall are, TO almost had as many receiving yards against Hall as Vick had total passing yards!!!!!!!

Their players are not.  The Fans are quite another matter; a vocal, annoying,  and heavily accented matter, in fact.  If it was left to them, they would start building the trophy case for next season's Lombardi ten minutes post-Superbowl.

Additionally, it is quite frustrating to watch that offense, and see Brady never get touched.  I want to see how well he plays when those O-linemen count for too much money against the salary cap and get shown the door.  Somebody knock that prettyboy on his fat wallet already!  When you can watch the play develop at home and see the pocket hold for 5+ seconds, You begin to feel that maybe if you put down your potato chips and jump out of your recliner, you could get a decent rush off of the Tight End if you would begin running right now. He's just holding the ball.  Get him!

Not really. They'll be 2-14 again soon enough. We're just enjoying the ride. They were one of the most pathetic franchises in the NFL for a LONG time, so we're not all that used to winning. This ain't Pittsburgh, SF or Dallas. Until someone beats them I don't believe they will be beaten. I feel the same about every Champion in every sport though.........

They already did - Woody? Gone. Andruzzi? Gone. They just backfill with guys who like to win.

I think you might be referring to their old QB, the guy in Dallas who hops and pats the ball for 40 seconds before taking another sack? Brady gets rid of the ball pretty quickly AND to the right guy!

I'll preface this by saying I don't think Brady is the best QB in football, but I couldn't argue against someone who did.

Don't know why anyone would hate Brady. The guy never says anything or does anything stupid. He just wins. Unlike the NFL glory boys who've never won anything (Culpepper, Shockey, Moss, Owens, Vick, Mannning etc.) - This guy is gets it done. Don't give me any of that RM9 shit either, the only year he DIDN'T win the Super Bowl, he led the league in TD passes so I don't want to hear about Mr. October in Indy and how he's THE MAN for putting up meaningless stats.

Hey, I don't have any accent to speak of!

And I too have just very much been enjoying the ride.  It is not that long ago at all that the Patriots were terrible and could just hope that maybe we could get into the playoffs as a sacraficial wild card team.

I frankly cannot even fathom that there will be another Superbowl victory at the end of this season.  However, at this point anything could happen -- and unless Payton gets his third win against the Patriots in November, I don't see him coming into Foxboro in January and winning...

I don't get the Patriots hate either, especially the anti-Brady hate.  Brady just wins.  He doesn't mouth off, insult others, or looks for attention.  Brady also isn't the highest paid QB in the league, though he could be.  He took a lot less money to keep quality players around himself.

The Patriots are a good team, well coached, don't cause issues, and don't have a lot of criminals on the team, unlike so many others (Baltimore, Dallas teams of the past, etc.)  Its nice to see a professional franchise just play the game and not constantly wag their tongues.

A lot of the Pats fans are Red Sox fans, and have become bitter sports fans because of that smile.  If you are a Red Sox fan all your life, you get pretty bitter, so its hard to know what to do with all the Patriots success.

The Red Sox won last year, but its hard to know it from some of the fans.

Can the Pats win this year?  Who knows.  We have as good a shot as any other team.

Add me to the list... and I'm no gentleman!  Come to think of it, I'm no lady either, lol!  I'm a longtime Boston and New England Pats fan (not lifetime cz they didn't exist when I was younger) and a lifetime Red Sox fan... I love this winning thing - for a change! I'm hoping the Superbowl is won already, but I always, always fear for our teams - it's ingrained from years of losing and last-minute losing.

Also: I'm from western Massachusetts (accent much like average national news non-accents), I don't trash other people's hopes and dreams (and teams), and really don't get the anti- Pats/ Brady talk.  They really are a blue-collar hard-working team - really like the Red Sox.  It's refreshing to see folks work hard for a team win instead of for individual stats.  So, what's not to love?  :?
