after thinking about it more and reading more about the deal, it's basically $10 million a year, which is what I thought was what he should get, not $18 million.  And should he meet the goals he could make an extra $10 million a year.  That should motivate him.

I think that's what QBs cost now and I'll take my chance with Kap over just about any of them.

Considering what Cutler and Flacco are making, Kaep's deal isn't all that outrageous in the context of what upper tier QBs make in the NFL. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but I'm okay with it because it wasn't that long ago that the Niners were trotting out the likes of Tim Rattay, JT O'Sullivan, Shaun Hill and shellshocked Alex Smith at QB.

I'm always amazed when people criticize QB contracts. QBs are expensive because you have no other options. You can't let the guy walk.

Wow. That's an excellent contract for the 49ers.

No kidding. Kaep gets a shit ton on money if he keeps getting better each year and the Niners can cut bait at any time if they feel like he is not giving them what they want on the field or if he gets hurt. Baalke should get a trophy for hammering out a deal that seems to satisfy both sides so much.
