Pete, you are back after a looooooong break from this thread!
Two days? There just isn't much to talk about in Philadelphia outside of baseball right now. Plus, the "49ers 2011 Offseason Discussion" thread doesn't always hold much interest for me. hey this thread is open to all teams, it's not my fault you guys are too embarrassed to talk about your teams

So the Saints and Sean Payton, after saying sorry a lot and acting like they learned a lesson, have appealed their punishments. I wonder if Goodell would give them even stricter punishments if he could now.

Embarrassed? Nah. Just disinterested in the false bravado that seems to manifest when the Niners manage to have a winning season for the first time in a decade. Although I'll take constant Niners updates to the still inconceivable fascination with a quarterback who can't seem to play the position of quarterback.

Hey, Vick wasn't the problem last year. It was mostly the utterly confused Eagles defense.

If Redskins routinely win the offseason, the Jets are the Super Bowl champs of self-promotion. What idiots.

Looks like only Seahawks had real changes. Not real sure how I feel about them. Lots of collegiate tones.

Man the niners must have pissed off everyone last year http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/05/before-final-game-gregg-williams-urged-saints-to-injure-49ers/Before his final game as defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, Gregg Williams stepped before his players and urged them to physically hurt players on the 49ers. Williams has long loved the phrase, “Kill the head and the body will die,” and he used that phrase in talking to his players. He also specifically told them to go for the head of 49ers running back Frank Gore.
“We’ve got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore’s head,” Williams told his players. “We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways.”
Williams also talked about trying to inflict a knee injury on 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree and referenced 49ers receiver Kyle Williams, who has had multiple concussions.
“We need to find out in the first two series of the game, the little wide receiver, No. 10, about his concussion,” Gregg Williams told his players about Kyle Williams. “We need to [expletive] put a lick on him, move him to decide. He needs to decide.” And then this story came out shortly afterwards, which I actually heard this before... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/05/gregg-williams-audio-puts-hits-on-kyle-williams-head-back-into-focus/a pair of Giants players admitted following the NFC title game that part of the strategy was to hit punt returner Kyle Williams in the head.
“The thing is, we knew he had four concussions, so that was our biggest thing, was to take him outta the game,” linebacker Jacquain Williams said at the time regarding Williams, who muffed a punt and fumbled a punt during San Francisco.

Wow the Niners got fucked again in scheduling. Open AT GB, then home against DET, then in consecutive weeks AT MIN and AT NYJ. http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2012/REG1

Oh yeah, totally fucked. I mean, the second seed in the NFC has to play two playoff teams in their first four games. And their strength of schedule is #24. Boo fucking hoo.

Sarcasm Gellar, sarcasm. Calm down, you don't have to find every opportunity to be insulting. You're right, they do. My coworker couldn't stop complaining about that game. He kept blaming the schedule on how they had 4 days to prepare for the game including jet lag. I told him that's a lame excuse. They're professionals and are paid generously to deal with that. The real reason they lost that game was not because of jet lag or lack or prep time, it was because they abandoned their style of offense, couldn't convert on 3rd down, couldn't protect the QB, and dropped pass after dropped pass.

Yeah, even if they can show that the Saints never used or gained a benefit from this system (what are the chances of that), Loomis has to be fired after this one.

Why? Belicheat didn't get fired for stealing signals using technology. Why should Loomis be fired for stealing coaching info using technology?

he wont get fired the nfl will black list him. how long will they tolerate a guy who shows no regard for the rules and norms of the nfl (if this is shown to be true)
plus i think we can all agreed that filming sideline signals and pregame practices is leagues away from electronically eavesdropping and monitoring every single bit of communication that occurs through an opposing teams players, coaches and coordinators headsets
if my neighbor snaps a picture of my car every day as i pull in to my drive hes going to get a talking to - if he installs a microphone in my dash were going to have a problem

A website I often frequent -teamradio.ca- has reported that TSN has some inside info on a pending Luongo trade. Apparently Bobby Lu has submitted a list of teams he'd waive his no-trade clause for and the Leafs are high on the list. The article text: TSN is reporting that goalie Roberto Luongo will submit a short list of teams to the Canucks next week that could pave the way for a trade out of Vancouver. The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly one of the teams on that list. Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy tweeted Wednesday night that the Tampa Bay Lightning are also on the list. While Nick Kypreos tweeted early Thursday morning that Luongo had asked the team for a trade in his exit meetings. Of course the source is TSN and in particular Kypreos, who I always take with a grain pound ton of salt. Still, I won't be surprised if its true and considering Leaf's Exec Dave Poulin was the person who brought him to Vancouver, Toronto as a destination could have some clout. Absolutely awesome if this pans out an it means the Canucks keep Schneider. What does this have to do with the NFL!?

You CAN'T tap into their headsets. So why was Belicheat punished for filming opposing coaches? It seems you can't legally film them. Thursday night Bill Belichick was hit with the stiffest possible fine by the league for his part in taping the play calling of the New York Jets. He will pay $500,000, while the New England Patriots will be fined $250,000 and a draft pick, or two, depending on how they finish the season.
