To be fair this new Robocop is in SWAT, and black is tactical.

Director != writer, unfortunately.
I think I'd rather have a great director, poor writer than the other way around though.

It's not actually a remake of Robocop. It's a movie version of The Tick! They just haven't painted it blue yet... I can't tell if the sort of robe-cape is part of the armor-costume, or maybe he's just wearing it on the set to cover up the armor. Or maybe Robocop is modest about his private parts?

I was trying to come up with excuses with the suit,i was hoping it was a failed attempt by ED-209 creators to outdo Robocop,only for it to fail,which then leads to them creating ED-209 But that teaser poster..thing ...that CeeKay put up,certainly looks like i can't make excuses for it anymore

OK, if they get permission to license the 1970s TV show SWAT's theme, then I might be less displeased.

Side effect of a little experiment we're running. Once I figure out how to un-include the internal forum links from the link embed functionality, they will go away.

Getting back to our nerd-rage over the suit... OK I have no problem with SWAT black. It's just, imho, Robocop is supposed to be built like a tank. You punch him, your hand breaks; you pepper him with a machine gun, and the armor will take a beating but he/it will survive. That's his schtick. He/it is intimidating. I don't find Joel in his black plastic/leather whatever with weirdo cape intimidating. If I was a criminal, I'd look at him and maybe start laughing. Or else I'd be going, "What the hell are YOU supposed to be?" They certainly don't have to make him look exactly the way Rob Bottin envisioned him in 1987. But if they're turning him into some svelte, downright skinny suited dude who looks more like a cyber circus acrobat (never mind the color) or a member of Intel's Blue Men painted black, then to me you should just drop the Robocop moniker and call him something else. Call him "Cybercop" or something. I'm sure their defense will be that they're "re-imagining," but to me the suit was at least half the original film's charm. I could've seen them revamping it in some way but a skimpy black caped bug suit wasn't what I envisioned. But, they didn't ask me. Or us. Honestly I hope it's not turning into some Iron Man-clone-ish with force fields and rocket launchers and what not. Don't turn Robocop into ED-209 Part II.

Baaaaad feeling -- just read this got bumped from a fairly prime late summer Aug. 2013 release date to a (generally speaking) "where can we dump this piece of crap" release date in February 2014. This is posited as accommodating a release date switch for Neil Blokamp's "Elysium," which is getting the Aug. 2013 release date instead. 'Elysium' pushed to summer 2013, 'Robocop' to winter 2014 (EW report) For comparison's sake, Verhoeven's Robocop released in July 1987, and the Irvin Kershner-directed Robocop 2 released in June 1990. Generally speaking, February is a dumping ground for films studios want to get rid of. Now March, which 300 proved can be a big box office month back in 2007, would give some hope but I really do get the impression the studio doesn't have confidence in this production. The plus side? Well, now they have 6 more months to work on this, for better or worse. Which isn't to say studios are are always right. I mean, someone in a suit thought Green Lantern would be a summer blockbuster for example...
