Not as good as I hoped but not as bad as I feared. Looks like it will be fun to go see. Kind of looks like they went with a Men in Black feel.

Word from the early screening they had a few weeks ago was fairly positive from what I heard on AICN.  I'm optimistic, but ready to be let down. smile

looks better than i hoped, but of course, most of the humor is not transferable to the big screen.

oh well.  another book->movie conversion that should never have been.  the list gets longer.

Never read the book - so the trailer makes it look like a fairly fun movie for movie.

I'll probably take my son to see it on opening weekend based on the trailer.

Course now i'm thinking about reading the book too - but based on everyones reactions above - i'm thinking I should see the movie first and then read the book so I have the best chance of enjoying the movie  smile

I got a chuckle out the scene with the fly swatters from the sand hitting them. Ive never read the book but I used to catch the PBS show sometimes as a kid..did'nt understand a thing about it or remember anything from it though.

Okay, I'm officially IN on this one. That final gag just busted me up, and it does look like they are going for a MIB feel. As I'm not really familiar with the source material, it looks fine to me.

I read the book, and I think it looks alright, though I will most likely be  disappointed with the outcome.  I have yet to really see a movie that transfered well from book to movie.  But it should still be a fun movie to see.

To be fair I think the book would be rather hard to translate directly to a movie.  Most of the funny is in the writing style than anything else.  I'm willing to give it a shot though... if only because I've always dreamed of seeing the falling whale in a movie. biggrin

A part of me hopes it'll be good because I'm sick of movie translations that suck but I hope it bombs so Mos Def will stop this silly acting thing of his and record another album that doesn't suck.

Well, considering Douglas Adams himself was the primary screenplay writer, I think it will at least be true to his vision.  Whether it lives up to your notion of the books is up to the individual I guess, but I don't see any evidence of anything sucking in that trailer.  Looks quite good.

The new trailer's awesome. I just wish that they'd release them in quality quick time versions, not streaming or grainy nonsense.

That's what I thought, but a check of IMDB says otherwise. It also says Zaphod is played by Sam Rockwell... and I could have sworn it was Owen Wilson. What do I know?

Mos Def as Ford Prefect could quite possibly end up being one of the worst casting decisions ever.  But hey, maybe I'll be surprised.

Warwick Davis (freaking Willow, man!), the man listed for Marvin, is the man in the Marvin suit. Alan Rickman is the voice of Marvin. Sam Rockwell has always been cast as Zaphod.

Right, gotcha, makes sense. I would have expected the voice actor as the credit though. I doubt David Prowse gets IMDB credit over James Earl Jones... though I'm not quite inquisitive enough to go and check myself smile

The IMDB credits list him as:
Alan Rickman - Marvin the Paranoid Android (voice)

Just like it lists both Prowse and Jones for Star Wars as:

David Prowse - Darth Vader
James Earl Jones - Darth Vader (voice)

Beautiful, glorious quicktime versions of the internet trailer are available at the film's official website. I am now really looking forward to this movie.
