Although he's not exactly the household name he was twenty years ago.

If he's not feeling it and wants to kill off his character just to say he's done it, then it shouldn't happen, period.

It looks as if Sony wants to ditch Director Ivan Reitman from the upcoming movie “Ghostbusters 3″ in order to pursue a younger film-maker. According to Vulture the studio is trying to navigate out of Reitman’s contract, which gives him and stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis the choice to veto a third Ghostbusters film if any of them don’t like the script. It also looks as if his summer schedule may be slightly packed since he begins filming the comedy “Friends with Benefits” at the same time Production on the new Ghostbusters flick begins. Is Ghostbusters actually going to get made? We’ll have to wait and see.

Aykroyd on Ghostbusters III Plot

Bill Murray is still out

Quote
Dan Aykroyd has been talking about the basics of the movie itself. Obviously the question of Bill Murray still came up (nope, he's still not doing it), but Aykroyd explained that "we need four new Ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students".

The reason? The new film is based around "new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University.... I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four plans of existence - length, height, width and time - become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters, have to come and solve the problem".

The movie is still not in production,so no telling when we will get this

Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon

This is an awesome cast.

Leslie Jones is kind of out of left field.  She's a beast of a woman and kind of uniquely hilarious.  To me, she's an inspired choice.

I love all of these women, though.

I expected Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.  I'm not familiar with the other two but I guess they're on "newer" SNL which I very rarely watch.

I would have loved to see Rashida Jones be in it.  She's both really attractive and very funny.  And willing to make a fool of herself.

Here's some Kate McKinnon on SNL: http://www.ifc.com/shows/comedy-bang-bang/blog/2014/06/kate-mckinnon-funniest-videos

Also, a killer Bieber: http://www.hulu.com/watch/585256 start_time=159

She will likely be playing someone who is a little off, but whether she's going to be more Egon or Keymaster remains to be seen.

Here's the thing about Leslie Jones, though.  She's still so new on SNL, that you can't really find a lot of stuff with her apart from update bits where she's just doing slight variations on her stand up.  I had actually dismissed her at the beginning, for the most part.  But over time, she's actually developed a bit of a character in those bits.  Not a full-on "character," but she has a more consistent through-line in them.  She's developing a heightened form of herself.  Then, seemingly all of a sudden, they started using her in sketches.  In a very small way at first, but it's been happening more and more, because she's becoming a bit of a utility player.  Someone you can pop into a sketch and heighten it.  And she's been getting laughs in sketches that are otherwise week.  It's pretty impressive, and she's definitely grown on me to the point where I look forward to seeing her.

I don't mean to say she's some comedy mastermind or akin to other great SNL utility players like Farrel or Hartman.  I honestly think she just stumbles into the funny.  But she's got a very different energy than anything out there.  Or really, anything out there in comedy.  What she does and who she seems to be are definitely out there in the real world.  I have run into plenty of Leslie Jones types in the world, and it's nice to see them represented.

Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are two of the best things about the new SNL cast, so I'm very happy. Leslie Jones is so good, in fact, that she started out as an extremely minor bit player (I think it was just one Weekend Update cameo) and was such a hit they promoted her to feature cast member.

I'm not really crazy about the idea of them putting the Ghostbusters name on this, however. I really hate Paul Feig's take that this should not reference the original movies/original movie universe. Then why steal the name? If you're not going to pay homage to the originals, then your blatant cash grab is even more blatant.

I'll try to keep an open mind, though. Those are four of the funniest ladies in the business right now.

He's backed down from that a little.

Quote

"We're not recreating the old movie but we want to do just enough fun nods that the fans will go, 'Oh, okay, they're acknowledging that the other movie existed,'" explained Feig.

And on the subject of parodies: "I like to watch parodies, but I don't want to do them because they're too referential. Comedy that's too referential has such a short shelf life, whereas comedy that's based around characters will be relatable 2000 years from now because people won't change that much."

source

I would have liked a more direct link to the old movies, too, and hopefully it won't be a total reboot.  It seems like it would be odd to not have this be in the same world.

Yeah, she's been...I don't know if "reigning it in" is the right phrase, but "putting that energy to better use" at least.  With a good director in the right role, she could be great.  I think this might be it.

Yeah, a lot of it comes down to the script and direction.  just don't want her to be "stereotypical black lady who be so loud and craaaazy".  Ugh.  Overall I just don't want them dumbing down Ghostbusters if they insist on resurrecting it.
