Harold Ramis talks G3.  They call it a reboot, but then they say:

Quote
Ramis promised that all the old core players will take part in the updated version, including Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz), who co-wrote the original films. "We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," Ramis said. "We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters."

which makes it sound less like a reboot and more like a new chapter set years after G2.  It'll be interesting to see who they cast as the new guys; I'm betting Seth Rogen will be one of them since he seems to be all over the place nowadays.

Well, it wouldn't make sense to do a straight third sequel. Murray, Ackroyd and the rest of the gang are pushing 60. There should have been a third movie back in the 90s or something. The second movie wasn't as good, but they could have put out one more.

Not really a reboot, but rather a continuation of the mythos that has been put forth. Color me interested!

I'll take Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Jason Segel as the new Ghost Busters! They all seem like people who would be into that.

And maybe add Wanda Sykes as the new receptionist?

The question isn't whether or not there's going to be a Girlbuster this time out, but rather who it's going to be.  My money's on either Taylor Swift of Miley Cyrus so they can draw in the pre-teen female demographic who only watch movies that suck.

I bet they'll get a female comedian. That would make more sense considering that the original guys are going to have a lot of pull with the creation of the film.

I wonder if there will be any tie ins with the game since they said it was the spiritual 3rd movie.

As long as it's someone who likes (or seems like they would like) the source material then I'm down with it. If Miley Cyrus is in it, I'm going to run away like it has Crystal Skulls in the title.

Whenever she isn't driving the movie Wanda Sykes does great bit-roles. She was ROFL funny in Clerks 2, for example. I also liked her in Evan Almighty.

The other three are frickin hilarious and with Judd Apatow attached to the project they're probably being considered anyways.

I thought that there was talk about Ben Stiller wanting to be in one not long ago but they couldn't get Murray to participate. Maybe I'm thinking back too far.

That didn't stop Indiana Jones from coming back, and despite all the deserved criticism of that movie, you all (I'm not counting me since I have not seen it or intend to) still managed to make it the second highest grossing film of last year.  Which means you legitimized the concept in the eyes of Hollywood.

On the whole it's a bad idea.

The movie Evolution actaully started out as a third Ghostbusters movie but fell apart due to some issues I can't remember right now.

I remember that, Bill Murray stepped out, and Fox was looking for a new vehicle for David Ducovney. So they jumped in, changed the ghosts into organisms, and re-write hell occured.

Whether you like the Judd Apatow-ian cast of characters or not, I think the movie can only work with a young cast if they are comedy superstars. And for better or for worse they are the stars right now.

I mean nobody wants to see the young Ghostbusters starring the Jonas Brothers. To capture the same spirit (no pun intended, though that was pretty good!) I think you HAVE to have some people with real comedy chops who work well together.

I'll go see it for good or bad - I'm too much of a Ghostbusters fan not to. But playing through the Ghostbusters game satisfied my craving to find out "what happened" to the Ghostbusters. It pretty much had everything I would have wanted in a movie.

Sigourney Weaver was talking about it a short time ago and implied that Bill Murray would be back...as a ghost.

Quote
Sigourney Weaver has been doing a lot of press for Avatar, so naturally lots of film journalists are hammering her for news about her potential involvement in Ghostbuster 3. Just last week, she mentioned that Bill Murray might be returning to the film as a ghost. Recently, MTV caught up with Weaver in London to try and clear things up. The short answer: She hasnít read the script and doesnít know too much yet, but she did have one interesting nugget about the filmís potential plot. Hit the jump to hear what she had to say.

When asked about Bill Murrayís character again, Weaver said, ďI donít know, I mean, he could come back as a sort of Slimer character.Ē Pressed on whether she knew or whether this was conjecture, Weaver explained:

I donít know. I havenít read the script. Theyíre sending me the script. I guess my little son Oscar, who was kidnapped, is a Ghostbuster, which makes me very proud. So [director Ivan Reitman] called me the other dayÖand said he would love me to take a look at it. In a few weeks Iíll actually know what it is, though I probably wonít be able to talk about it.

Being a ghost seems to be coming out of the left field to me. Why would he be a ghost? It's suggesting that he would of died sometime in between Ghostbusters 2 and this new one.
