Experiment time.

We'll see what I smell like by the end of the day.

Test it at the local transit station. Sit beside people. Also brush your teeth, we don't want false positives. (oh, and no urine-stained pants either). smile

I don't use deodorant save for rare occassions where I can't shower that day. Unless I'm nervous sweating, my sweat somehow doesn't stink. Usually.

How do you know your sweat doesn't stink? I always had the idea that people who do have BO don't know because they can't smell it.
I ask many people.
I basically stopped for while when I got a rash, and asked people if they noticed, which they did not.
This was the middle of summer, so I just stopped using it altogether.
Mind you, if I am sweating bullets, I'll put some on, and there ARE times where I can smell myself and fix that ASAP, but it isn't the norm.

My real life test trumps an ordinary local transit station.  I take Boston's Green Line home, and the Red Sox have home games for the next 3 days.  That means a shoulder to shoulder sardine packed train with broken A/C, and an arm held high to hold the handrail.  Fear me.

Unless you're overpowered by some open-mouth-breather who hasn't bathed in days.

You *DID* say Boston, right? slywink

Well despite a 20 minute period where I smelled something like soapy wheat that I thought might be me, I think the Tom's of Maine deodorant did just fine for it's first day at the office.

Now for test #2: a 4.5 mile run followed by a half hour of weightlifting.

I use deodorant without antiperspirant. Pores have a purpose, and I figure it's not good to block them. icon_wink I wouldn't ever skip deodorant though; I don't like my own not-so-fresh smell.

I'm curious, if you're only putting on deodorant, why not just use cologne or something that is bound to smell better than Speed Stick?

Okay, you don't understand what deodorant does.

It doesn't just cover up the smell, it prevents the smell.  Cologne doesn't do that.  You can still have bad BO w/ cologne.  With deodorant you might be sweaty, but still not stinky.

Kratz knows of what he speaks.

One time (and only one time), I ran out of deodorant. I used cologne to try to mask the lack of deodorant.

I made an early lunch-time run to the store for a stick of deodorant that day. icon_wink

I have to say this Tom's of Maine stuff actually seems to be working really well for me.  Guess I've been pumping myself full of aluminum for no reason all these years.

Well, I have to admit that the last time I used regular deodorant without antipersperant was back in the awkward teenage years of overflowing hormones and uncontrollable sweating (as well as other things).  I may have to give it a try again next time I buy a stick.  Maybe even some of wonderpug's Tom's of Maine stuff.  smile

Yesterday, I got to work a zombie, having only had 3 hours of sleep. I had some caffeine (I try hard to never drink caffeine, as it keeps me up) and within an hour or so, I was sweating stink like no other. This had happened on Sunday, but I didn't have a stick of deodorant like I do at work for just such an occasion.
My lesson? Caffeine makes me stink.

Do you not eat meat, Ed?  I hear that no meat helps you to not get BO as bad.

I know you're all dying to hear more about my hops-filled armpits.  Tom's is holding up just fine for ordinary day-to-day duties, but there was a particularly hot & humid day last week that may have brought me to environmental hazard levels of stink.

Straight up aerosol Arrid XXDry

why do you hate the environment?  Tongue  I tried aerosol before but got tired of inhaling the excess spray.

I simply took the lesser of two evils. Since no other deodorant works for me it was more harmful to the environment for me not to use it  slywink
