So, with my wife and I having had our second child, we have decided we are done. Back when my wife went off of the pill so we could get pregnant with child one, I vowed that she would never have to go back on to the pill. So in the future I am planning on getting a vasectomy, but would like to wait at least a year to make sure both children are healthy before making any permanent decisions.
With that said, we need some form of birth control so we decided to use condoms...one problem...I have never bought or used a condom in my life. What do I need to know about buying them, any suggestions on brands etc?

You put them on your weiner. No babies come. (Unless they break). By the way, I know you made this promise that she wouldn't have to go back on it, but you will find you won't like it as much as bareback and she might not like it, either. There are other alternatives besides condoms (shot and other ways), so that you might explore this.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend condoms to someone who's been in the same relationship for a long time. They're great for preventing transmission of infection, but there are better products out there for purely contraceptive use and condoms make sex feel (comparitively) rubbish. If you go ahead, the only brand whose name I can even remember is Durex, so I'd use those. Oh, and don't use any that promise to give you a "tingling sensation"...trust me.

Haha. That was an odd choice of words. I'm not talking about those ones. There was a type we bought once that had some sort of coating on them that promised pleasant sensations. You know what it's like when you put a really, really hot mint in your mouth? It was like doing that to my cock.

I suppose I should clarify, the point of her not going back on the pill was due to some issues she had while on it. The doctors have advised against any sort of hormonal treatment and recommended we use condoms until I get my vasectomy.

This. Stay away from the hormone crap. As for the big V, find somebody who does it with lasers instead of knives. You'll heal faster and have a lot less residual pain.

Yes and hope you arent one of the unlucky ones who gets a post operative infection. No nasty details, but I now believe I may have some inkling of what the pain of childbirth must be for a woman.

I thought you could get a vasectomy done in a way that's reversible.

Yeah, vasectomies are reversible. Just tell the doc you want it to be reversible. I used to be a surgical tech and assisted both with the procedure and the reversing part. The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes and the incision is about 0.3 cm long - really minor surgery (from a non-psychological standpoint). The reversal is longer, but feasible.

Well, buying condoms sure is a strange experience. I had to go up to the pharmacy counter at my super market and ask for them, then of course had to try and decide which ones to get... the only options were a few different types of Trojan brand...bought just a three pack to see how it goes.

If you're going to go that route, I've found the Durex Extra Sensitive to be the least bad.

Well, gave the condoms a try last night. It made things different, but wasn't too bad. The worst part was just getting the stupid thing on.
