Grace isn't a spring chicken anymore (she's 36), and I wouldn't be surprised if she slimmed down for the bikini scenes in the pilot. In interviews she professed to having little or no experience with fight scenes, so I don't know if she's in "fighting shape."

Right, but her character background is surfer girl who just graduated police academy. Which in my mind means good sized thigh muscles and at least some toned musculature, regardless of whether or not she is in "fighting shape". In some scenes her head is bigger than her chest. I exaggerate but the point is, if she's playing a local girl she needs more meat.

A Pew Research Center poll found nearly half of Americans hold the false belief that TARP was passed under President Obama, while only 34 percent know it originated under Bush.
"Oh yeah?" Bush replied. "50% of the people were wrong."

So, I'm going to guess here and say you're not a person cursed with an overly active metabolism.

But back to the point, no, no she doesn't. There are plenty of people who quite simply can't put on weight or gain any significant muscle mass just through exercise and work. I know, I'm one of them. Looking at her build, even in the BSG days, I'd wager that woman would have to eat roughly 5 full meals a day (or 7 smaller ones) and focus on super high calorie high protein foods to gain even 8 to 10 pounds and the kind of muscle mass that would make the difference you're talking about.

She could easily look the way she does and be not just completely healthy but more than strong enough to surf. The first person to bring up BMI gets a ticket on the failboat.

/offtopic

Despite the complete lack of originality, I'm enjoying the show. It's silly, but fun. Planning to keep watching.

Ausiello: Newly unemployed Lone Star star James Wolk should call his agent, because the CBS reboot is casting the perfect part for him: a possibly two-faced old buddy of McGarrett’s who’s visiting the islands as a bodyguard for a controversial Third World leader.
Speaking of Lone Star, wow -- I've seen shows get canceled quickly but 2 episodes seems an awfully short hook. If a network (Fox) has so little faith in a show, why do they bother greenlighting it at all?

I don't know, but it's Fox. Who knows what their thought process is like. Yeah, you'd think they'd greenlight a show they have faith in. Seems to me greenlighting and cancelling so quickly is a waste of money and time, both for the network and the actors. They seem so skittish. Haven't they heard that a show needs time to find its place?  Two episodes isn't enough of a good judge of how well a show will do, nevermind the fact that some of the best fans are the ones that come in late after discovering a show.

But yeah, Hawaii 5-0. I don't think anybody thought it would be very good, but look at it. I think it's the surprise hit of the season.

I watched about 20 mins of Lonestar just to what it was about and that was all I could take.  Doesnt suprise me that they canned it.     Regarding Hawaii 5-0  its pretty much a weekly action flick.  Not too complicated,  has the diverging styles buddy cop thing and is mostly there for the fun of it.  One nit picky problem though
Spoiler for Hiden:
How can Grace Parks character take out a room of armed guys in her underwear and then next episode  let 1 serbian wench take her 12 rounds.

I was thinking the same thing, why even bother if you clearly had no intention of supporting the show (see Firefly)?  What a waste of a lot of people's time and energy.  I still have the show on my DVR and was planning to get around to it soon, the lead actor just seems so "dreamy" for lack of a better word.  I saw an extended preview a while back and it looked pretty interesting, but concept-wise it seemed like a hard sell.  Maybe it would have done better on cable where they could have made it a bit more "edgy".  But again, it's not like the execs didn't know the concept when they greenlighted it, so why did they go with it in the first place?  Maybe they thought the slot after House should give them free ratings, but apparently not.

The problem with LoneStar is that the main character is an unlikeable douchebag that cons people out of their money and then spends half the episode feeling sorry for himself. Last time I checked most of the population is still a little up in arms about the economy and job market. Perhaps it's not the best time for a TV show about a dude who steals people's savings. That the ratings were that incredibly bad doesn't surprise me at all.

I watched the first episode and promptly removed it from my recording schedule in Media Center.

I guess its cause the wench knows how to fight, and the Asian smugglers are just ordinary thugs, but I doubt the writers put much thought or care into those things. As you said before this is a weekly action flick(seems the only requirement they have is 2+ gunfights and one melee per show)

While I enjoyed yesterday's episode, two things perplexed me...
Spoiler for Hiden:
If Mr. Cop spies thugs with handguns walking onto a H.S. football field, shouldn't he, like, you know, stop them BEFORE they start shooting people? Rather than "I'll follow you guys until you shoot people, and then I'll shoot you."  icon_confused

The climactic shootout was at such close range, it reminded me of a shootout in Leslie Nielsen's first The Naked Gun movie where they'd poke their heads out and shoot at each other about 5 yard range. icon_smile
I don't expect it to be a police documentary, but sometimes it's just a little goofier than I expect.

Then again, the exec producers wrote the Transformers films. What am I thinking.  drool

Some fun guest star and "possible" guest star news from EW...

'Hawaii Five-0': Producers want original 'Danno'

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/10/07/hawaii-five-0-original-danno-cameo/
Quote
Executive Producer Peter Lenkov told EW that it remains a goal to persuade James MacArthur — aka “Danno” on the series that first aired from 1968 to 1980 — to make a cameo on the CBS drama.
...
Speaking of highly anticipated characters, Lenkov also confirmed that Masi Oka (Heroes) will show up in episode four as a coroner named Max Bergman; he’ll appear in at least three episodes this season.

Spoiler for Hiden:
That and he was probably waiting to make sure he had backup in position. We already know that his character has a very strong dislike of being shot at and a dislike for going in alone. Presumably because he wants to make sure he stays alive so he can keep seeing his daughter. Saying "drop it" when he's outnumbered 2-1 is probably not his style.

I love the show as well. Its nice seeing and recognizing all the places from where I grew up.

Unbelievably sad news, especially since the new show's creators were trying to line him up for a cameo.  tear

James MacArthur, 'Hawaii Five-0' actor, dies
http://news-briefs.ew.com/2010/10/28/james-macarthur-hawaii-five-0-actor-dies/
Quote
James MacArthur, the actor who played Danno in the original Hawaii Five-0, passed away this morning, according to a Paramount rep. The actor — the son of screenwriter Charles MacArthur and actress Helen Hayes — was 72 years old; no cause of death was given.
He was trying to get some sort of new business started, and so was too busy to make a cameo appearance to this point, was the last thing I'd read about him.

I liked the show, but when it went on midseason hiatus, I kind of lost track of it and once I realized it was back I had missed enough to lose interest.  I may try to catch up in summer reruns though.

fwiw, Masi Oka's (Heroes) coroner character will be a series regular in Season 2 (albeit probably not as much screen time as the Core 4):

I had stopped watching this, but caught an episode earlier this week. I don't know if it was a repeat or a season premiere but I was rather shocked to find the show suddenly seemed like, well, 24... with the Governor Lady turning out to be a traitor, McGarrett framed as a murderer of

Nah - you just happened to catch the season finale with all the cliffhangers.  The rest of the season was pretty consistent, blend of sexy, funny, action, Hawaii scenery, bromance banter, etc.

Nice premiere, man they moved it along fast lol.  Pretty much settled everything from the finale and still set up multiple storylines for the season.

Was fun to see Locke and Jin's first scene together.  Nostalgia time!  I really really hope they get Sun to guest star at some point.

Then you add Hiro and Spike, Grace Park and Alex O'Laughlin and it's like sci-fi/fantasy bonanza.  Vampires, heroes, and Cylons, oh my!

That was a fun episode.  I wish they would move a little faster on the side story (who murdered the father), it's very up and down.

Dont know if anyone is still watching but I had to remark about the 2013 season premiere.  Now I get that this show is beyond belief over the top and Ive allowed for that but this episode was complete and total crap.  It was so bad that I whacked 5-0 from my DVR and have not intentions of ever watching it again.  The writers should be summarily blacklisted from ever writing for TV again.  Im a pretty accepting guy when it comes to Hollywood and can suspend belief in order to enjoy a program but the this show has absolutely gone into batshit crazy land.  The climatic scene with the copter was a really nice microcosm of all that is wrong with this show.
Spoiler for Hiden:
Why pick up the auto rifle at your feet and shoot the copter down ( it was an unarmored news copter and not too far away ) when you can leap into the air barely catching the landing strut, avoid the bad guy shooting at you long enough to grab his arm and toss him out.  Climb into the copter and struggle with the big bad who pulls a gun, which in the ensuing struggle  goes off killing the copter pilot ( yeah didnt see that one coming  retard )  finally kills the big bad ( who he advised earlier in the episode that he was going to kill ) and dramatically lands the copter.
Its like they took every action cliche they could find threw them in a blender and vomited it into our TV screens. Im thinking they moved the show to Fridays so they could quietly kill it off with a minimum of network embarrassment.

It wouldn't surprise me if they ended the series this season.  they'll have the right number of episodes to make the most out of syndication and they seem to be aiming to finally reveal the Doris/Wo Fat connection, plus we'll get to see Hurley and Carol Burnett in different episodes.
