My anniversary is coming up and, due to work schedules, I wanted to surprise the wife with a quick three/four-day getaway. Something calm and peaceful with the ability to take a leisurely horseback ride through beautiful scenery would be perfect. I've looked around the intertubes and this place seems ideal, if a bit close to home. I'd prefer to go out of state. Maybe somewhere with mountains. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

My wife was working here when we got engaged: http://www.lostcreek.com/

It's seriously mofo expensive though.... but there may be other similar places in the Jackson area that would be more affordable.

Both Estes Park and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge look really good. (Lost Creek looks amazing, but is WAY out of my price range.  eek)

Unfortunately, I've just been made aware of plans my wife has that Thursday night, meaning travel will have to wait 'till Friday morning... which cuts the three-day weekend even shorter (Leave Friday, return Sunday). I'll likely opt for the in-state option the weekend of our anniversary, and keep the other two in my back pocket for a bit later in the summer when our schedules are more clear.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Headin' to Blisswood (place in the original post) in a couple hours, with the wife leaning towards Estes Park for later, as she's never been to Colorado and I've been telling her for years that it's the prettiest state in the union.

The wife spoiled the surprise, though. I'd managed to keep her from making any grandiose plans for our anniversary by telling her we'd be doing something with my dad this weekend for Father's Day. I managed to sneak the shift in my work schedule by explaining that several folks needed me to work for them on certain days, so I traded with them. However, being "out-of-school and lookin' for stuff to do," she kept making plans for today. First it was a trip to the casino with the gal we intend to knock-up. Having LaDonna's e-mail, this one was easy to get postponed without the wife suspecting. When Niki started making plans to throw a retirement party for a co-worker this evening, she forced my hand. "I have uncancellable reservations out-of-town for that night for two. You're supposed to be 'two.'"

She was pleasantly surprised, and is looking forward to the trip. We'll stop in Brenham on the way down to see how Blue Bell Ice Cream is made. We'll stop relaxing for a bit on Saturday to ride horses. We'll stop in Waco on the way back for some barbecue. Should be a good weekend.
