I figure it needs to be something unique, not just jewels and gold. I mean, there's tons of jewels and gold in shipwrecks in the ocean, if you were a treasure hunter it'd be easier to go look for those.  For this hundreds of years old conspiracy to be justified I think it needs to be much more than that.  Maybe the Holy Grail or something, I dunno....but it needs to be good.

it's the spear of destiny!!!1111!!1!

I liked the look of everything this movie had to offer until it said Nicholas Cage, now I like some movies with him like Adaptation and Matchstick Men, but there are times I just want to tear his head off like Con Air and Gone in Sixty Seconds, just not stable enough of an actor for him to be a draw for me.

eitherway, it looks better than some of the other drivel being pushed on us, Ocean's elven? WTF, wasn't pissing on the original film enough? Now you want to make a crapshot sequel? eventhough I halfway liked the remake, I still think a sequel is retarded and ruins the point of the lfirst one...

That would be totally sweet if it was the spear of destiny... (you are talking about the spear that punctured jesus and is in the hands of the most power country in the world, right?)  Then it would be a must to go see it.

I guess your right about more than just jewels and gold.  But I think part of the premise was that it was the Knight's Templar Treasure, some enormous amount or crazy good quality warez.. smile

But I wouldn't be surprised if they threw something in there.  Not the Grail because Indie found that.  Maybe like John Adam's pornography collection...

Then again you can usually tell by the director, and the same guy that directed The Mummy is doing National Treasure so prepare yourself accordingly.

I don't know where you guys are getting all this mummy talk. The director of National Treasure is [urlhttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005509/]Jon Turteltaub[/url] of Disney's The Kid fame. Not Stephem Sommers, the Mummy and Van Helsing hack. Far superior pedigree. Tongue

the main thing i didn't like about the trailer is that it seems to give almost thet entire plot of the movie away in condensed form.   the before-theft, theft, and treasure hunt bits are all layed out in order, so we already know when we watch that he succeeds in stealing the DoC.   any suspense in the scene is gone completely.

personally, i prefer to have a bit of surprise left in a movie when i watch it.  ex.  the trailers for the first matrix movie did not give away what the matrix was or how the characters were doing what they were doing.  the matrix itself was left to your imagination until you saw the movie.  so much more rewarding i think than having everything spelled out

When I first saw the trailer I thought the main piece was going to be stealing the DoC, but then, like you, I realized that was only a piece of the story.  So I wonder what other bizarre puzzles they are going to throw into it.

However, I don't think they gave away the whole movie in the trailer, maybe just the DoC part.  I mean look at the discussion above, what IS the treasure?  Regardless, it comes out in a few days and since I saw Incredibles and am going to see Finding Neverland, this is the next on my list.  So, we will see soon enough.

So I saw this last night and was pleasantly surprised.  I think it's a good 'Romancing the Stone' type of movie, although not as good as that one(but then, not much is imo).

So yes, now I FINALLY know what the treasure is, hehe.  I'm satisfied with it.

Nic Cage was acceptable in that he wasn't catering to his annoying 'tic' style of acting.  Diane Kruger was smokin', this is the first time I've seen here in anything and I look forward to more. Besides looking good, she has charisma to spare and made her part believable.

I guess what I liked best about this movie is that it felt like a Tomb Raider game(me being a big TR fan), in fact THIS is the movie that the Tomb Raider movies should have been.  A couple of times I found myself wishing for my gamepad so I could do a couple of the jumps and puzzles, hehe.

spoilers below:

My one slight beef is with the scene between Gates Sr and his son.  In the scene where they find out that what they've been looking for is real, I was expecting a relevatory type of reaction from them. Their family name has been dragged through the mud for generations, they've been mocked constantly, and years, hell DECADES, of their lives have been spent searching. And when they finally find it, we get some wonderous looks but that's about it. I would've been high fiving, hugging my dad, dancing a jig- something, c'mon! This should have been a huge moment, it was massive redemption after all.

After that, THEN they could show us the goods and let us stare in wonder.

I agree that it was more of the TR type, but Angelina Jolie is hot (you like that logic).  Diane Kruger was also smoking and I knew she would be.  Shes quickly climbing the ranks of hotness.

**SPOLIER**

Thats a good point you made.  I probably would have been like that.  "Suckas, you all didn't believe but now you can kiss my ass, and then drool at that manshion I got"  (I did like that little ending with the 1% thing, not bad).  But part of the deal with the cops was that the discovery go to the Gates family?  I guess you are talking on a more personal level of celebration.  I thought Nic could have decked his father for being a bit of a jerk for most of his life... smile
