Yay homebrew! I was just about to start a thread about homebrewing.
I bottled my very first batch last night. Did John Palmer's Cincinnati Pale Ale.
Today I'm going to brew a pumpkin ale, gotta get that pipeline going, I never want to have to wait 5+ weeks for homebrew again!
Going to call the Pumpkin Ale - Punkin Drublic

We had a brew years ago that was a little bit sweet and very smooth, but a bit higher in alcoholic content than normal. It was a big hit and was a quick, delicious way to get intoxicated. There was a debate about what to call it, but we settled on Bob. It was important to never call it "Bob beer" though, and you could never say, "Gimme a Bob." It was so ubiquitous for a time that it was just another friend. Bob.

Gryndyl & I brewed a licorice stout that is up around 9%, called Nevermore. Not sure what we will do next, but I have a yearning for a good IPA.

Well.. after quite a laborious brew session.. my first ever Pumpkin Ale is in the fermenter. I used a 1L yeast starter, so I've installed a blow-off tube.. I have a feeling this thing is going to be a beast.
Looks beautiful.. so orange!

I haven't made beer since the kids took over the spare bathroom...the one with the bath tub in it.
I always liked making Ales and Stouts.
Damn good stuff.

I've just put an Irish stout into the carboy to ferment for a week. I plan on making a Red Ale next week. My friend and I were brewing and decided to go geeky with the names of the brew.
First thought was to give it a dwarven name, because of the obvious D&D puns. But we were watching Firefly, and have come up with a few names:
For the Irish Stout:
Browncoat or Mal-Content
And for the Red Ale:
Saffron
It's a stupid but fun part of the process. Can anyone come up with a better name for them?

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works every time.
Seriously, though, I think Einsteinium and I like Reaver Red for the red ale that hasn't been brewed yet. We checked our stout last night and looks like we'll be bottling Saturday morning! Still not positive on the name yet...

Unfortunately I don't have time to brew any more and rarely drink at home anyways. When my brother and I used to brew in our youth, we used to brew some unusual lagers and ales and came upon a recipe for a beer that used spruce shoots for malt. Apparently some of the early pioneers here in Canukistan used to brew it to fight scurvy - yeah sure, I'll go along with that. Since we have lots of juicy Engleman spruce in our neck of the woods it worked well and tasted surprisingly good - like a tarty ginger ale with a real kick. We named it: Spruce Juice X. The 2nd batch ended up having a high alcohol content, so we name it: Spruce Juice XX OK, so we weren't too original in or naming.

I think we've tentatively decided on Browncoat Stout. Mudder's Milk still a possibility. "Just wait 'til we go to the crappy town where I'm a hero" was deemed too long for the label.
