I got out of the shower this morning and put on my underwear as usual.  I'm a briefs not a boxers guy and I noticed for the first time that my Fruit of the Looms have FTL on the waistband.

I chuckled and when my wife asked me what was so funny I pointed at the waistband and said "Faster Than Light".  She said, "That's not something I'd want to advertise on my underwear."

Ouch.

Totally. And given the guy wearing it (notice, not the pants, that's Lady Warning) it's apropos.

Could be worse.  I just noticed this the other day on my new socks

 icon_eek

WTF was Columbia thinking when they designed these things.  In my defense you couldn't really see the swastika until you put the sock on. These things are going in the trash, I do wish I had kept the receipt as I think there is a pretty good reason to take them back for a refund.

That isn't a swastika, it is actually thier company symbol, just looks like a bad transfer.

I see what you mean but on my foot it looks very much like a swastika and nothing like their company symbol.  Guess they didn't factor in the expansion of the sock once it's put on.  Still not going to wear these anymore.

That is totally a swastika bad transfer or no.

You should totally make a stink about this and see if you get national headlines.

Young man offended by sock swastika.
Dude, the talk shows would totally eat this up.

Matt lauer: What did you do when you found the swastika
Zinfan: I felt the urge to read Mein Kampf
ML: Did you?
Z: No, but I did feel the urge
ML: How horrifying.  What happened next
Z: Well I showed it to my Rabbi
ML: You're Jewish? Oh the humanity
Z: Yes. And a gypsy too.  Possibly ghey as well.
ML: So you were offended on many different levels?
Z: Oh yes. Totally.  In fact when I posted the picture
ML: On. On. <looks at notes> Gamingbend.com?
Z: Trend. Gamingtrend.com
ML: Yes. Gamingbend. What happened
Z: Well, I was gonna let it go, but I was encouraged to take a stand.
ML: You're very brave
Z: I don't know about brave.  But, the word hero has been tossed around.
ML: Indeed.  So were all the other geeks as charged up as you.
Z: You're being glib, Matt...

etc.

Well, the swastika does predate the Nazis by thousands of years...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Edit to say: if you ever visit the Carlsberg beer factory in Copenhagen, it is covered in swastikas because it was one of the company's primary symbols before the Nazi party emerged in Germany.

Yeah but the company in question isn't a German company or a Nazi company. It's not even like you can really see the symbol without looking for it.

I have nothing against German companies and really I don't think it's that big of a deal, I'm not going to start a personal vendetta against Columbia (I'm sure I have more than a few items from them) it's just that I know it's there and now they seem like bad luck socks to me and I won't wear them any longer.

At this point I think it bears mentioning that a thread talking about warning's underwear has gone through changes involving the Illinois Nazi Party sneaking their brand onto footwear, a Bavarian brewer's attitude of "I had it first!" towards the swastika, and Zinfan's mother surviving the Blitz on London during the war. Does anyone have a gif of John Cleese during "The Germans" episode of Faulty Towers to make this thread complete?
