 eek

August of 2000.

It seems odd to me that they've been around that long.

It was the Last of the Mohicans Soundtrack.  I had a gift card so final cost with shipping (snicker) was $2.97.

Amazing.

Huh.  Turns out my first order was in February, 2001.  Something called a "CD" with excerpts of MLK Jr. speeches.  The order details also include this "shipping fee" you speak of.

The CD is still available today, but the price has gone up one cent.

my current account only goes back to 2005, but I know I ordered a bunch of Discworld books from Amazon UK back in 1999 (I was just getting into Discworld but almost all of the earlier novels were out of print in the US).  I did have a different main email back then, so I probably just started a new account after not being able to recover my old one.  I may have even ordered from the US site before that.

Amazon in Canada isn't nearly as good. I held off until 2006. Gift for my mom - it was a DVD of a favorite exercise video she used to have on VHS called Callenetics.

I was mainly a brick and mortar store guy back then after having a rather bad experience with an online retailer (not Amazon or any major site you would have heard of) where 3 weeks afterwards a charge of over $900 was made on a clothing site from some third world country.  took them 6 weeks to free my money for good and it took me a long time to put my trust in any online retailer.

September 1998

The DIG Soundtrack $14.99
Vampire Chronicles: Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned (Anne Rice) (Audio Cassette) $27.97
Shipping $4.90
Total $47.86

Good news is that if I for some reason wanted to buy the physical CD of The DIG again a nice UK site would be happy to sell it to me for only $3773.27 plus $3.99 shipping.

What I find hilarious is that after buying one CD in early 2001, I don't buy anything again from them until 2004.  I guess it took me a while to be convinced this newfangled "Amazon" thing would take off.

As far as I know you don't need to order every month. Amazon Jp let's you select how often to send you the product. I get a new deodorant every 3 or 4 months.

My first order in 2000 was a big 'un... $569 for a Playstation 2 Family Fun Pack, PS2 DVD remote, and a PS2 memory card.  Not sure what the "Family Fun Pack" consisted of... probably an extra controller and some games.

I just got a new pc and for the life of me I can't figure out what email account I had associated with my Amazon account.  I have tried 4 of them and it keeps denying me.  I am begging them to look up email accounts associated with my last name (only about 10 people in the US have it...all relatives).  I hope they will.   I am baffled they don't have a forgot your email account option with answer the questions option like every other website out there.  Any other ideas on figuring this out?  I could maybe install my HD from my old PC and somehow pull it off there maybe (cookies or something, was set to autologin)?  At a loss?
